    For the purpose of providing direct support to athletes who do not yet fulfil the criteria for high-level accreditation, the National Sports Council of Spain [Consejo Superior de Deportes] defined the figure of high-performance athletes in Royal Decree 971/2007 on high-level and high-performance athletes, dated July 13

    The ADO Program provides financial aid to athletes and their trainers – with possibilities of achieving results at the Olympic Games – as compensation for their dedication to high-level sport. This group includes high-level athletes, as well as other athletes not in this category

    The ADOP Plan supporting paralympic sports began in June, 2005, and represented the culmination of a process to bring paralympic athletes up to the level of their Olympic counterparts who were already benefiting from the ADO Plan
