EUROPEAN WEEK OF SPORT 2024:
At the tenth edition of the European Week of Sport (SED), held as every year from 23 to 30 September, we have managed to record 1032 activities, far exceeding the record reached in 2019, which was 798.
This has been achieved thanks to close collaboration with our partners, the Olympic athletes who participated in our promotional video of SED-2024 and having established special synergies with the organisers of the European School Sport Day and those of the European Mobility Week
Vigo hosted the main event of SED-2024 with a long day of activities that started at 17:00 and culminated with a #BEACTIVE NIGHT at 23:00. All the Autonomous Communities plus the two autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla participated with activities, which is a milestone of participation that we hope will be maintained in future editions.
EUROPEAN SPORTS WEEK 2023:
As part of the activities of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia hosted on 23 September the main events of the European Week of Sport of 2023. In this context, the meeting of the EU Director-General for Sports and the Conference on Safe Environments in Sport were also held.
EUROPEAN SPORTS WEEK 2022:
Finally, following the years of restrictions caused by the pandemic, in 2022 we were able to organise a European Sport Week without any restrictions on special measures for the prevention of contagion.
In this eighth edition, held as every year from 23 to 30 September, we have come to record 773 activities, just 25 of the record reached in 2019, which was 798. We have been supported by entities such as the COE, the COE, the Sanitas Foundation or the ONCE together with other regular partners such as the Fundación España Activa, the Fundación Deportes Joven or the Ploggin Tour circuit. All of them have promoted activities within this week promoting healthy living through physical activity, sport and healthy eating habits.
Melilla hosted the main event of SED-2022 with a long day of activities culminating in a #BEACTIVE NIGHT. To this event were added other municipalities of Andalusia and the Region of Murcia that received the support of the CSD in the form of dissemination material and monitors for the development of their master class with a significant influx of audience. In total 9 EVENTS #BEACTIVE were organized with the direct support of the CSD. Participants were 13 of the 17 Autonomous Communities that make up our country. This implies a reduction in participation by autonomous communities that we will face for the next edition.
EUROPEAN WEEK OF SPORT 2021:
In this seventh edition of the European Week of Sport, it was decided not to promote numerous mass events, as was our custom in pre-pandemic times, due to the existence of the risk of contagion in Spain despite the massive vaccination that has been carried out in our country. Still, we have been able to record a significant number of activities (191) that have been uploaded throughout the national geography to our platform.
We wanted to remain cautious and therefore organized a single great event, the BEACTIVE NIGHT of the Palmas de Gran Canaria, which was a successful attendance, in which visitors were able to practice many different sports modalities in a festive atmosphere. This video illustrates what has been done with the invaluable collaboration of the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
We have also challenged the municipalities of Spain to send us a video of about 1’30” that reflects the sports offer of their town or city classified into four different categories according to their population and we have received 63 high-quality proposals from which we leave a sample below. We hope that these images motivate us to keep us active by leveraging the resources that municipalities make available to us.

EUROPEAN SPORT WEEK 2020:
The appearance of COVID-19 was the restriction of sports activity in Spain, especially at the end of September, after the summer, when the number of infections and deaths was increasing daily. This meant the annulment of all the participatory events that might have been raised, including the one we wanted to have held in Gijón, which had to be transformed in a matter of days into a closed-door filming of the master class that we had planned to have done in a central area near the beach of San Lorenzo.
Instead, we proposed the participation in a photo and video course to which some high-quality works were presented, but, as with the rest of the events, the awards ceremony also had to be suspended, and the trophies were sent to their respective recipients by post.
We have our hopes for mass vaccination that will enable us to re-celebrate SED as usual, with a great participation of the entire sports sector.
EUROPEAN SPORTS WEEK 2019:
The fifth edition of the European Week of Sport was held from 23 to 30 September 2019. In our country, it was inaugurated on September 21 at the Centre for High Performance in Madrid with an Open Day in which more than a thousand people participated. From 23 to 27 September, promotional events were held with sports activities in municipalities, colleges, universities, hostility, sports clubs, work centers, museums, etc. The Week was closed with the celebration of twelve #BEACTIVE NIGHTS in different Spanish, highlighting the one of Ciudad Real on the night of September 28 to 29. It should be noted that in this edition more than twice the activities uploaded to the platform of the European Week of Sport than those added in the previous edition, shows the growing commitment of sports entities to this initiative. In this video you can find out what the BeActive Night was like in Ciudad Real.
We double the number of activities developed from 23 to 30 September uploaded to the platform compared to the previous year: from the 336 activities registered in 2018, we went to a total of 682 activities in 2019. According to data from The Executive Agency for Education, Audiovisual and Culture – EACEA-, Spain has been the country with the greatest impact on social networks of the 42 participating countries with 23%, followed by the United Kingdom with 17.4%.
12 EVENTS #BEACTIVE were organized with the direct support of the CSD throughout the Spanish territory. More than 340,000 participants were registered. Participants were 16 of the 17 Autonomous Communities that make up our country.
