Sports-related employment grew by 3.4% in 2024, to 255,000 people
Madrid, February 24, 2025.- Employment linked to the sports sector has continued in 2024 its upward trend, growing by 3.4% compared to the previous year and reaching 255,000 people employed, according to data published this Monday by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports at DEWAUKEE ata.
Employment linked to sport accounted for 1.2% of the total in Spain in 2024, including workers from companies mainly involved in the management of sports facilities, clubs, gyms and the organisation of sporting events, as well as the manufacture of sporting goods.
This figure also includes athletes, coaches and physical activity instructors.
There is an upward trend in our country. Not in vain, employment in this sector has grown by 8.7% compared to 2022 and 14.1% compared to 2021, when the occupation in the field of sport was 222,900 people.
In particular, employment in the sports sector is characterised by its youth.
53.6% of the people employed in this sector are younger than 35 years old, when the figures for general employability in Spain show that 25% of the workers are below that age.
It also stands out for higher than average academic education, with 51.4% of employees with higher education in 2024. In total employment, this percentage is 46.7%.
In addition, the analysis reveals that 86.0% of sports-related employment is salaried and has full-time and part-time employment rates of 56.5% and 43.5%, respectively.
By gender, the percentage of men (59.8%) is higher than that of all employment in Spain (53.6%), although in 2024 the percentage of women has grown by 0.3% compared to 2023 and stands at 40.2%.
