Toledo, September 23, 2024.- The Government of Spain has earmarked more than 3.7 million euros for the promotion of sport in Castilla-La Mancha since 2021, through different investments that the president of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, made known this Monday during an institutional visit to Toledo.
Coinciding with the start of European Sports Week, which takes place between 23 and 30 September simultaneously in all the countries of the European Union, the Secretary of State for Sport and the Government delegate, Milagros Tolón, have met with representatives of some of the local entities benefiting from the grants from the Next Generation Funds, whose total amounts to 2.7 million euros.
In particular, EUR 1.7 million is being earmarked for the modernisation, digitisation and promotion of sport in rural areas and EUR 1.02 million for the promotion of sustainable sports tourism in the community.
The representatives of the municipalities present at the meeting – Tomelloso, Ugena, Valdepeñas, Manzanares and Cabanillas del Campo – have been able to share with the president of the CSD some of the actions they are carrying out in Castilla-La Mancha, designated the ‘European Sports Region 2024’.
Rodríguez Uribes has also stated that the Community Board of Castilla-La Mancha will receive a grant of one million euros for the improvement of sports facilities and expenses of the high-level sports unit in the Hospital de Parapléjicos de Toledo and for support actions for treatment, control and monitoring of athletes.
During the meeting, the president of the CSD has stressed “the necessary collaboration between public administrations for the proper development of any state policy, as is the case of sports policy in Spain”, which since 2018 is marked, as Rodríguez Uribes pointed out, “by legislative reforms and also by budget investment”.
The president of the CSD has realised the Spanish Government’s comprehensive and sustained commitment to sport. The CSD budget exceeds 1.8 billion euros in the 2018-2024 period. Among them, the EUR 300 million from the European Funds. Spain has been the only country in the European Union that has included sport and physical activity as one of the ten levers of its Recovery Plan.
For her part, the delegate of the Government in Castilla-La Mancha, Milagros Tolón, has pointed out that sport is a fundamental axis of the action of the Government of Spain and has stressed the benefit that these grants represent for the neighbors and neighbors of the municipalities that receive the grant. Likewise, it has highlighted the investment of one million euros for the Hospital de Parapléjicos de Toledo, a reference center at national level.
