The Council of Ministers gives the green light to a package of direct subsidies to Spanish sport worth 21.7 million euros

The Government of Spain will contribute to the organization in our country of the Spanish Grand Prix of Formula 1, the Ryder Cup of golf, the World Rugby Series, the Rally of the Canary Islands, the European MTB of cycling and the Davis Cup of tennis, among others.

In addition, through the Superior Sports Council (CSD) it will continue to promote equality through sport with direct grants for the Women's Tour, the Basketball League and the participation of the Spanish team in the Billie Jean King Tennis Cup.

The sport practiced by people with disabilities, for its part, will benefit from the aid to the Spanish Paralympic Committee for international competitions and for the adaptation of its new headquarters, as well as to the Hospital de Parapléjicos de Toledo, a national reference center that is considered the cradle of paralympic sport.

In addition, the Government of Spain will finance with 5 million euros the creation, by the Spanish Olympic Committee, of a pioneering data platform in Spanish sport that aims to improve sports performance and boost research.
Madrid, August 26, 2025.- The Council of Ministers approved on Tuesday two Royal Decrees that will allow the Higher Sports Council (CSD) to allocate 21.7 million euros to the creation of a pioneering data platform in Spanish sport, to the improvement of facilities in the CAR of Sant Cugat and in the Specialized Center of High Performance of Sailing of Santander, to the organization of international events of first level and to the promotion of women and paralympic sport.
The first of these Royal Decrees provides for the direct granting, on an exceptional basis and for reasons of public, economic and social interest, of subsidies worth 16.7 million euros to the organization of sports competitions of international relevance and to the promotion of excellence at the high level.
Thus, among the main grants stand out the 2,000,000 euros to Circuits of Catalonia for operating expenses and for the positioning of the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix; 1,500,000 euros to the Royal Spanish Golf Federation for the preparation and celebration of the Ryder Cup of 2031; 1,500,000 to the Spanish Rugby Federation for the celebration of the World Series of 2026 and 2027; 1,200,000 euros to the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation for the organization of the Canary Islands Rally; 350,000 euros to the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation for the celebration of the King Davis Cup.
The Government strengthens its commitment to equality
Through the approval of this Royal Decree, the Government of Spain also reinforces its commitment to equality in sport with a grant of one million euros to the Spanish Basketball Federation, which will allow to consolidate the labor and social improvements of the players and clubs of the Women's League after the signing of the II Collective Agreement. In addition, the CSD will contribute 800,000 euros to UniPublic to the organization of the Women’s Tour, a benchmark within the highest category of the International Cycling Union.
The sport practiced by people with disabilities is another of the priority axes of this aid package, which provides two grants to the Spanish Paralympic Committee.
One of them, worth 500,000 euros, for the participation of the national delegation in the Paralympic Youth Games and in the World Championships of athletics and swimming and another, 200,000 euros, for the remodeling and adaptation of its new headquarters.
The Community Board of Castilla-La Mancha, for its part, will benefit from a grant of 250,000 euros that will cover the expenses of the sports unit of the Paraplegic Hospital of Toledo, as well as the treatments, control and follow-up of athletes with spinal injury.
Likewise, the CSD will allocate 900,000 euros to the modernization of the facilities and sports spaces of the Prince Felipe de Santander Specialized High Performance Center, a reference in the preparation of the Olympic sailing classes and in the innovation associated with nautical sport.
The High Performance Centre of Sant Cugat will also benefit from this package of direct aid, being able to allocate 3,000,000 euros to the financing of current operating expenses and 500,000 euros to the construction of new facilities and to the improvement of its current infrastructures.
In order to guarantee equal opportunities for sportspeople throughout the national territory, the CSD will finance the travel of those residing in the Canary and Balearic Islands and in the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, with a total of 1.5 million euros in transport aid.
In addition, the CSD will grant 300,000 euros to the Young Sport Foundation to promote competitions and programs to promote sport and healthy habits among young people.
A pioneering data program in Spanish sport
The Council of Ministers has also approved a Royal Decree that regulates the subsidy of 5,000,000 euros to the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) for the creation of a pioneering data program in Spanish sport.
This innovation project aims to improve sports performance and boost research in sport through the use of artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technologies. The platform will allow to analyze large volumes of data related to sports practice, facilitating the prevention and treatment of injuries, the optimization of training loads and the design of equipment.
The grant will cover, among other expenses, the hiring of technology companies, the creation of a research office for data analysis, the training of technical-sports teams and the management and registration of patents. With this project, Spain will be at the forefront of digital transformation in sport and will strengthen its international leadership by generating a positive impact on the high level and on the health and well-being of athletes.
The COE will also receive a grant of 875,000 euros for the training, updating and development of the sports data platform CONPaaS and for the participation of Spanish athletes in the two official European Olympic competitions planned this year.
