Madrid, October 13, 2025.- The Higher Sports Council (CSD) has adhered to the “Green Sports Manifesto”, promoted by the European Commission, to underline its commitment to promoting environmental sustainability in the field of sport.

Through the signing by the CSD of the aforementioned manifesto, Spain takes a step forward in the active promotion of green sport and reaffirms its firm will to continue aligning public sports policies with the European Green Pact.

“Public officials have an obligation to contribute from governance, financing, regulatory development and inter-administrative cooperation to a more responsible and environmentally friendly sports model,” said CSD President José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, after sealing with his signature the agency’s commitment to this initiative of the European Commission.

The manifesto includes different commitments on the part of governments and the public sector, among which are the constitution of an advisory group dedicated to sustainable sport, the inclusion of environmental sustainability as a relevant criterion for the allocation of aid and subsidies or the support of projects and events in which care for the environment is guaranteed.

“Making our commitments from the manifesto,” said Rodríguez Uribes, “not only do we take another step in the leadership of Spain in terms of sustainability in sport, but we also reaffirm the defense of a sports model that takes into account the future of the planet.”

In this regard, the president of the CSD has pointed out that “the commitment of the Government of Spain” has been clearly expressed in the decision to “allocate 146.5 million euros – practically 50 percent of the NextGenerationEU funds dedicated to the modernization of the sports sector – to the ecological transition of sports facilities”. “Now we are taking another step, by adhering to the Green Sport Manifesto,” he said.

The CSD will encourage sports federations, professional leagues, clubs, sports entities, associations and athletes to join the manifesto and defend a sustainable sports model.

In addition, it will collaborate in the promotion and dissemination of good practices in the field of sustainability in sport.
