Madrid, 2 July 2025.- The Higher Sports Council (CSD) hosted this Wednesday the presentation of the European Sports Week 2025, an initiative of the European Commission to be held simultaneously from 23 to 30 September in all member countries of the European Union.
Through different actions, the European Week of Sport involves the social strata and citizens in promoting a healthy lifestyle, emphasising the importance of physical activity and good eating habits. These will be the values promulgated by José Manuel Calderón, Teresa Perales and Theresa Zabell as ambassadors of the European Sports Week in 2025.
The objective throughout the Spanish territory will be to exceed the figures of the previous year, in which the record of participation was broken, with 1,239 activities registered and more than 600,000 participants.
Important sports entities will contribute to the promotion of the European Sports Week, such as the Youth Sports Foundation, the Active Spain Foundation, the Real Madrid Foundation, the Movistar Students Foundation, the Gasol Foundation, the José Manuel Calderón Foundation, the Blanca Foundation, the Ecomar Foundation, the Mapfre Foundation, Team Be Pro and the Nereu Association. All of them have joined this Wednesday to this initiative, promoted in 2015 by the European Commission and which in our country promotes the CSD.
“I am convinced that the commitment of these entities to the European Sports Week will be an impetus that will make a difference. That is why I am especially grateful for his adherence to this initiative, which covers fields such as physical, mental and emotional health or the fight against childhood obesity, in addition to the pure promotion of sport and the values that we all associate with it,” said the president of the CSD, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes.
During the event held in the Samaranch Room, swimmer Teresa Perales highlighted the ability of sport to “transform people’s lives in every corner of the territory” and to promote “a life in communion, in which everyone can be admitted”.
For his part, José Manuel Calderón pointed out that “sport is the most inclusive environment in society, because all practitioners are able to help themselves for a common good”. “In addition, it allows education and is a physical and mental health tool, so we are going to face the challenge of more boys and girls in Spain betting on physical activity,” he added.
In the European Week of Sport are called to participate the Autonomous Communities, municipalities, universities, educational, sports and work centers, sports federations, media and content creators.
The city of Segovia will this year be the venue in Spain for the central events of the European Sports Week.
