CSD pays tribute to Susana Rodríguez, “one of the best Spanish athletes in history”

José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes has praised the trajectory of the Spanish triathlete, who a few weeks ago proclaimed herself world champion for the seventh time

Madrid, December 4, 2025.- The President of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, received this Thursday the triathlete Susana Rodríguez, whom he has defined as “one of the most important Spanish athletes in history”, thanks to her victories in the Paralympic Games of Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 and the recent conquest of her seventh World Championship.

Accompanied by the general secretary of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, Alicia García, and by the general director of the Spanish Paralympic Committee, Francisco Botía, the Galician triathlete has been the protagonist of an act of recognition for her brilliant sporting career. Still active and eager to continue adding new triumphs to her list, Susana Rodríguez is “one of the best athletes in history”, in the words of José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes.

The president of the CSD has assured that Susana Rodríguez, who has two golds in the Paralympic Games, seven world titles and six continents, “is not only a person with talent, but also with many abilities, who has worked and has endeavoured” to develop an “extraordinary career, in sports and academics”.

A doctor by profession, Susana Rodríguez “is a great example for young people”, said Rodríguez Uribes during the event held in the Samaranch Room.

Also praising the Spanish Triathlon Federation and the Spanish Paralympic Committee, Rodríguez Uribes thanked the “commitment” of the main sports agents of our country to promote the “equality” of opportunities.

“The joint work of the Higher Sports Council, the Olympic and Paralympic Committees and the sports federations allows us to talk about the success of Spanish sport, without qualifiers. That’s the way we’re going to continue working together,” he said.

In this regard, Alicia García has agreed to point out that institutional support is key to accompany the trajectory of athletes such as Susana Rodríguez, “who has marked a before and an after” in the practice of triathlon by people with disabilities, highlighting their “capacity for inspiration and motivation”.

Francisco Botía has also valued the “impact” that Susana Rodríguez, “one of the greatest referents of Spanish sport”, is having.

“Their achievements are not enough to explain their real dimension. It is forever changing the history of paralympic sport in Spain,” he said.

“The evolution of paralympic sport is unstoppable”

For her part, Susana Rodríguez has thanked her for the recognition of her work and her capacity for effort. “I’m proud of the whole journey. I arrived in the world 37 years ago, with a very serious visual disability, but I have been fortunate to have an environment that interpreted this as one more quality and that offered me the tools to grow and meet my goals. Sport has changed my life. I would never have imagined that I would be on the podium of a Games or win seven World Championships,” he said.

Susana Rodríguez also highlighted the work of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, stressing that “Spanish paratriathlon is the main international reference” and thanked the support of the Spanish Paralympic Committee and the Superior Sports Council.

“Being part of the Paralympic movement is a pride and being able to represent our country internationally is one of the most beautiful things that can happen to an athlete. The change that I have been able to experience in the sport practiced by people with disabilities has been spectacular. The evolution of paralympic sport is unstoppable,” he said.
