The CSD recognizes the trajectory of Club Natació Banyoles and Albert Corominas

José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes gave them this Friday the gold plate and the bronze medal of the Real Orden del Mérito Deportivo.

Banyoles, September 19, 2025.- The president of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, delivered this Friday in the city of Banyoles the gold plate of the Royal Order of Sports Merit to the Club Natació Banyoles and the bronze medal to the athlete Albert Corominas.

Founded in 1925, the CN Banyoles has consolidated over almost a century not only as one of the most relevant sports entities in Catalonia, but as a catalyst for the sporting, social and economic life of the area.

Originally dedicated to the practice of swimming, the club has hosted major European and world sporting events throughout its history, becoming a sub-venue for rowing tests during the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, which led to a profound renovation of its facilities and Lake Banyoles itself.

The CN Banyoles continues today to maintain its leading role in the organization of local, national and international events, demonstrating its organizational capacity and the quality of its infrastructures. To the traditional Travesia del Lago, which celebrates its 81st edition these days, are added Championships of Spain and Catalonia and, recently, the World Rowing Masters Regatta of Banyoles.

During the presentation, the president of the CSD highlighted the “one hundred years of good work” of CN Banyoles. “It’s not just a sports club, it’s a whole institution that brings the city together,” he said.

Rodríguez Uribes has also highlighted the “special sensitivity” of the club with its natural environment, which makes it an “example to follow” in terms of sport and sustainability, and the social weight of the entity, with more than 10,000 members.

For his part, the athlete Albert Corominas has received the bronze medal of the Royal Order of Sporting Merit.

A native of Banyoles, at the age of 43 he accumulates a long list of sporting successes, mainly in the disciplines of marathon canoeing and quadriathlon.

Especially noteworthy is the silver achieved in the 2010 World Canoeing Championship, held in Banyoles, in the K2 modality with his partner Jorge Alonso.

In the discipline of quadriathlon, which combines swimming, cycling, canoeing and walking, Corominas was proclaimed champion of Europe and the World in 2014, demonstrating its great ability to master multiple endurance sports.

Palista of the Spanish national team from 2005 to 2018, he has also been Spanish champion of canoeing 5 km on four occasions and has achieved regional and national titles in other disciplines such as sea kayaking, surfski and paddle race. Without forgetting his three participations in the Regatta del Río Negro (Argentina), the longest competition in the world in stages -500 km-, in which he managed to rank among the top four.

For Rodríguez Uribes, Albert Corominas is “a reference in all senses, something very valuable in the turbulent times in which we live”. The president of the CSD has highlighted the link of the Catalan athlete with his city, where he has developed both his career as an athlete and as a coach, and from which he has become an emblem.

The mayor of Banyoles, Miquel Noguer, has been proud of the two recognitions, highlighting that “the trajectory of the Club Natació Banyoles is distinguished, not only in the sports field but also in the social aspect”. Regarding the bronze medal awarded to Corominas, he pointed out that “it is the brooch to a brilliant sporting career, in addition to enhancing his work as a coach and trainer”.
