Madrid, 22 october 2024.-The council of ministers, on the proposal from the minister of education, vocational training and sport, Pilar Alegría, has granted this tuesday to Miguel Carballeda the grand cross of the royal order of sporting merit, the highest distinction granted by the government of Spain, in recognition of its work at the forefront of Spanish Paralympic Committee.
Miguel Carballeda off this week a period of twenty years as Spanish Paralympic Committee, from where it has worked in a loyalty to the government of spain on the momentum of our sport. Among the measures taken under your presidency highlights in 2007 equal access by athletes with disabilities to High performance centres and the recent equalisation medal awards between olympic and paralympic games, which contributes to the high council of sports (CSD).
Miguel Carballeda was, moreover, the promoter of two major programmes for the future of sport practised by persons with disabilities, such as Relevo Paralímpico and the programme Promises.
It established the ADOP plan, a successful model of sponsorship for the paralympic sport. Its financing is based almost entirely of private contributions, which is not only contribute to the achievement of objectives but also to sports social transformation.
In addition, Miguel Carballeda has led to the consideration of the paralympic games as event of exceptional public interest and the declaration on the part of the CSD sportsmen paralympic games and their guides.
