The Government awards the Special national sports to 2020 and athletes who contributed to the fight against the pandemic

The president of the supreme council for sports, José Manuel Franco, on behalf of the government, has signed a resolution which gave the national prize of extraordinary Sport 2020 anyone sportsmen who, from their jobs in the forefront of the fight against Covid, provided the best of themselves, expressing the best values of sport to the battle against the pandemic.

The prize will be delivered this monday, 18 july in the royal palace of El Pardo by SS.MM. kings, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia, at the same sitting in which awards will be handed over for the year 2019. While the national sport Awards reflect the recognition of individuals and entities that contribute heavily to bolster or disseminate físico-deportiva activity, it should be recalled that 2020 was a special year. A year that virtually all cancelled sports events and competitions, were postponed the olympic and paralympic games in Tokyo and was limited for many months practise sports, including the individual.

In this regard, and generally lacked the athletes to compete under equal conditions and grant the annual awards in the normal way in which that could lead to unnecessary grievances. Hence the desirability of creating a Special Award for a collective that, with enormous solidarity and sometimes from their own jobs, contributed to combat the virus and to encourage a passing population fear, uncertainty and painfully.

They were the ones who since the first minute joined the institutional campaigns to combat Covid; those who we were encouraged to train from home; who supported, after the confinement, the strategy of ‘ Deporte Seguro ’ who led the ministry of health and the CSD, through compliance with sencillo- - not always of the health security measures necessary at that time.
