- The Council of Ministers approved a royal decree that will strengthen the federal system, support the implementation of the U Basketball League, build a new grass hockey field for national teams and facilitate the professionalization of women's football clubs.
Madrid, December 9, 2025.- The Council of Ministers approved on Tuesday, at the proposal of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, a royal decree that regulates the direct granting of four grants, worth 5,360,000 euros, aimed at strengthening the Spanish sports ecosystem, building key new facilities and supporting new structural projects in the federative and professional field.
Among these grants, managed through the Superior Sports Council, is the award of 2.5 million euros to the Spanish Basketball Federation on the occasion of the launch of the U League.
This competition has been created to offer an environment for the integral development of young talents, by combining education and sport.
In this way, the U League constitutes a strategic project to broaden the base and raise the level of Spanish basketball. The CSD will contribute a total of 15 million euros to its organization in its first three seasons, starting with the contribution of 2.5 million in 2025 that has been approved on Tuesday in the Council of Ministers.
The royal decree also includes a grant of 1.5 million euros aimed at independent clubs of a male structure that compete in the Professional Women's Football League, in order to facilitate compliance with quality standards.
The beneficiaries will be able to modernize and adapt their sports infrastructures and improve the conditions of their players.
With this measure, the Government reaffirms its commitment to the professionalization of women's football and to the growth of national competition.
In addition, the Superior Sports Council will allocate 1 million euros for the construction and equipment of a new grass hockey field in the High Performance Center of Sant Cugat. This space, intended for the training of national teams, will mean a notable improvement in its preparation.
Finally, the royal decree regulates the granting of a subsidy of 360,000 euros to the Spanish Sports Association (ADESP), an entity that represents Spanish sports federations.
This aid will allow the organization of sports and training programs, as well as financing actions to support the management of Spanish sports federations.
