The Dean sports club of Aragon celebrates its centenary this year
  • The president of the CSD has travelled the highlights of the Dean sports club of the Aragonese capital, which has more than 65,000 square meters and more than 8,500 members.

  • Rodríguez Uribes also participated last night at the inaugural gala of the CN Helios Centenary, in which he highlighted his “comprehensive vision of sport, not only as a physical activity, but as a right of citizens”.

Zaragoza, January 14, 2025.- José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, president of the Superior Council of Sports (CSD), today visited the facilities of the Helios Swimming Center of Zaragoza, dean of the sports clubs of Aragón, which this year celebrates its first centenary.

Accompanied by the president of CN Helios, José María Esteban Celorrio, the president of the Organizing Committee of the Centenary, Rafael Feliz, and other members of the board of directors of the club, Rodríguez Uribes has traveled emblematic spaces of the center such as the swimming pools, the sports hall, the frontoons, the rocodrome and the paddle and basketball courts.

During the visit, the president of the CSD signed the honour book of the institution, greeted the workers of the centre, which employs more than a hundred people, and coincided with the members and athletes of the centre.

Registered at the Zaragoza City Hall in July 1925, the CN Helios currently has over 65,000 m2 of its own facilities in the center of Zaragoza, next to the Ebro River and the Plaza de Nuestra Señora del Pilar. It has 18 sports sections and has over 8,500 members and partners, including 1,500 federated athletes.

In addition to the visit to the club, Rodríguez Uribes attended the opening gala of the CN Helios Centenary last night. An event held at the Main Theatre of the capital of Aragon in which the most significant milestones of the first hundred years of the center were revived and the programme of sports, social and cultural activities that will take place throughout the year of commemoration was advanced.

During the event, Rodríguez Uribes highlighted the character of the CN Helios as “a reference center and sign, a living history not only of Zaragoza, but of the whole of Spain”. A project that, in his words, “represents very well what today, a hundred years later, is included in the Sport Law: an integral vision of sport not only as physical activity, but as a right of citizens linked to health, nature and a way of living”.
