Meeting of the Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for the Protection of the European Lifestyle, Margaritis Schinás and the President of the CSD

Madrid, March 30, 2023. The Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for the Protection of the European Lifestyle, Margaritis Schinás, and the Secretary of State for Sport and President of the Higher Sports Council, José Manuel Franco, held a working meeting at the headquarters of the CSD this afternoon.

The objective of the meeting was to share the main lines of the Spanish sports model, in a year marked by the approval of the new Sports Law and the execution of European funds in sports.

The meeting, in which the Vice-President of the European Commission signed the CSD Book of Honour, was attended by representatives of the Spanish sports field at the highest level: Alejandro Blanco – Chairman of the Spanish Olympic Committee; Miguel Carballeda – Chairman of the Spanish Paralympic Committee; Luis Rubiales – Chairman of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and Vice-Chairman of the UEFA; Jorge Garbajosa – Chairman of the Spanish Basketball Federation; Juan Carlos Martín – Chairman of the Royal Spanish Rugby Federation; Gonzaga Escauriaza – Chairman of the Royal Spanish GolfFederation;

Also present were the acting director of the Representation in Spain of the European Commission, Lucas González; the Director of Cabinet of the CSD, Juan María Fernández Carnicer; the Deputy Director-General of Women and Sport of the CSD, Bárbara Fuerte; and María Luisa Llano-Cardenal, member of the Cabinet of the Vice-President of the EC.
