  • Pedro Sánchez has coincided with the men’s and women’s water polo teams and the national artistic swimming team, whom he has congratulated for their recent successes at the Singapore World Championships.

  • The President of the Government was accompanied during the visit by the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Salvador Illa; the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría; and the President of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes.

  • The Government of Spain collaborates annually in the development of sports programs and in the maintenance of the CAR of Sant Cugat, of regional ownership, through a grant that in 2025 is consolidated in 3.5 million euros.

Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona), September 29, 2025.- The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, visited this Monday the High Performance Center (CAR) of Sant Cugat, one of the four sports complexes with this qualification that exist in Spain - together with those of Madrid, León and Sierra Nevada - and where every day they train some of the best athletes of our country.

There he was able to congratulate the national artistic swimming team that, under the direction of Andrea Fuentes, at the last World Championships in Singapore signed its best historical performance with the conquest of three golds, two silvers and four bronzes.

During the visit, the President of the Government was able to visualize from the technical area the routines of the team and the mixed duo, accompanied by the President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Salvador Illa; the Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría; the President of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes; the Councillor d’Esports, Berni Álvarez; and the President of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation, Fernando Carpena, among others.

Pedro Sánchez has also played with the members of the men’s and women’s water polo teams, who in the last World Cup won the gold and bronze medal, respectively.

The President of the Government has also carried out a follow-up of the improvement works of the CAR of Sant Cugat, a center in which technical programs, high performance and high level are developed and where athletes and national teams find a support structure oriented not only to the achievement of results but also to their integral training.

Thus, in addition to first-class facilities and services of more than 200 professionals specialized in physical preparation, medicine, physiotherapy, physiology, sports psychology and biomechanics, the CAR of Sant Cugat also has a residence and an educational offer that allows athletes to study ESO and Baccalaureate.

The only High Performance Center of regional ownership

The ownership of the CAR of Sant Cugat belongs to the Generalitat de Catalunya, although the Government of Spain collaborates in the development of its activity through a grant awarded annually by the Superior Sports Council (CSD).

In 2025, the Government of Spain will allocate 3.5 million euros to the financing of current operating expenses, the construction of new facilities and the improvement of the current infrastructures of the CAR of Sant Cugat.

Like the High Performance Centers in Madrid, León and Sierra Nevada (Granada), owned by the Superior Sports Council, the Sant Cugat CAR is undergoing an ambitious modernization process, to which the Government of Spain has contributed an investment of 8 million euros from the NextGenerationEU funds that complements the annual support for maintenance expenses.
