Madrid, 10 october 2024.- Over 220 participants from more than 40 countries have met in Porto (Portugal) from 8 to 10 october to celebrate the eighteenth conference of ministers responsible for the Sport of the council of europe.
The director-general of sports, Fernando Molinero, has been responsible for representing España in a meeting which has put its own focus on collaboration and good governance of sport.
Organized by the Enlarged Partial Agreement on sport (EPAS) in cooperation with the ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and the Portuguese Institute of sport and youth (IPDJ), the edition of this year has had as salient themes leadership through gender equality in sport, the management of the dual careers and the importance of a gender perspective in the youth sports policies.
The first day of the conference has been focused on the tenth anniversary of the council of europe convention on the handling of sports events (Convenio de Macolin), with three round tables on the main achievements of the convention and its future prospects.
The European Charter of sport, governance of sport and the collaboration of governments with sporting organizations have engaged in the meetings of the second day.
In this context, the director-general of sports, Fernando Molinero, has shared with the good practices in Spain, which has emphasized the definition of a “ framework of action to define clearly the roles and responsibility of each entity ”, “ inclusive participation of all actors, since the athletes and coaches to sports organisations and civil society ” and the introduction of “ transparency and internal control sports actors ”.
In the last day of the conference was held two thematic meetings on leadership through gender equality in sports and dual careers.
