CSD delivers ‘Be Active’ awards to administrations, entities and people most committed to European Sport Week

In the 2024 edition they joined this initiative, promoted by the European Commission to combat sedentarism, all the Autonomous Communities and Autonomous Cities, and the record of activities and participation has been broken.

The Community of Madrid and the municipalities of Oviedo, Rivas Vaciamadrid, Ciudad Real, Martorell, Tarazona, La Puebla de Alfindén and Balanegra have been some of the winners.

Madrid, 13 December 2024.- The President of the Higher Council of Sports (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, delivered on Friday the CSD-BeActive 2024 awards to the Autonomous Communities, municipalities, universities, educational centers, sports centers, work centers, media and content creators that have shown a greater commitment to the promotion of European sports week.
Last September, this initiative led by the European Commission to combat sedentarism has been closely monitored in Spain.
In 2024 the record of activities in our country was broken, with a total of 1,230, which improves by 13% the average of all participating countries (1,086 activities). In addition, with 611,253 registered people, Spain has more than doubled the average overall participation.
“The figures show that we are increasingly aware of the benefits of physical activity,” said CSD President José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, during the event held at the Samaranch Hall.
It has also stressed the need to “strengthen the link between sport and health”, for which it has considered “fundamental the collective work that today is recognized with the delivery of these CSD-Be Active prizes to different public administrations, private entities and people who have committed themselves in a special way to the values promoted by the European Week of Sport”, added the president of the CSD.
Recognitions CSD-BeActive 2024
The CSD-Be Active awards are aimed at Autonomous Communities, municipalities, educational centers, sports centers, universities, work centers and media that have shown a greater commitment to the promotion of sports practice and healthy habits during the European Sport Week.
In the 2024 edition, in the category of Autonomous Communities the work of the Community of Madrid has been recognized as being the region with the three municipalities (Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Madrid and Valdemanco) more participative in the sum of their activities, with a total of 228. Precisely, Rivas-Vaciamadrid has been recognized as the municipality with more than 100,000 inhabitants with the highest number of proposed activities, with 120.
The other awarded municipalities have been Ciudad Real, in the category of municipalities with between 50.001 and 100,000 inhabitants; Martorell (Barcelona), in the category of municipalities between 20.001 and 50,000 inhabitants; Tarazona (Zaragoza), in the category of municipalities between 10.001 and 20,000 inhabitants; La Puebla de Alfindén (Zaragoza), in the category of municipalities between 5.001 and 10,000 inhabitants; The extraordinary prize to the municipality of over 200,000 inhabitants has been for Oviedo.
In the category of university centers, the University of Granada has been awarded the highest number of proposals during this edition of the European Week of Sport. The commitment of the following schools has also been recognized: the CEIP Clara Sánchez and the CEIP Miguel de Cervantes, both from Castilla-La Mancha; and the CEIP Concepción Arenal, from the Valencian Community.
Mondo Ibérica has been awarded the prize as a work center with more proposed activities and more participation, while Area AML Boxing Club 13 has been the award-winning sports center. For its part, TVG has won in the media category for the coverage of the central event of the European Week of Sport, held in Vigo. The CSD has also acknowledged the advocacy work that has been done by social media creators Clara and Elisabeth Mas.
About the European Week of Sport
European Sport Week is a European Commission initiative to combat sedentarism, which is being held simultaneously in all the Member States of the European Union. This year, Spain counted as ambassadors the Olympic medalists Enmanuel Reyes Pla (boxing), Juana Camilión (basketball 3x3) and Joan Antoni Moreno (canoeing).
