The Avilés Group of Sports Medicine analyzes the role of activity and physical exercise in the disease and the challenge of artificial intelligence applied to the health of the athlete
Medical officers of the Sports Medicine Centers of the Autonomous Communities, High Performance and Technification Centers and representatives of several local entities debate on the current challenges of their professional activity
The meeting, held in the municipality of Miranda de Ebro in Burgos, was attended by Aitor Canibe, deputy general director of Sports Sciences, and Fernando Gutiérrez, director of the Sports Medicine Center of the CAR in Madrid.
Madrid, October 05, 2023. The Avilés Sports Medicine Working Group, composed of medical directors of the Sports Medicine Centers of the Autonomous Communities, High Performance and Technification Centers and representatives of local entities, has held its XII annual meeting to analyze the issues that currently arouse special interest for sports medicine.
The meeting, in whose organization the Subdirectorate General of Sports Sciences of the Higher Sports Council (CSD) has participated in collaboration with the City of Miranda de Ebro, has addressed over two days of work the role that activity and physical exercise play in the diabetic patient, in neurodegenerative disease and in obesity. In addition, the meeting has included a presentation on physical exercise and cancer and a visit of all attendees to the facilities of the Sports Center for Oncological Rehabilitation of the GYAFyS Cancer Foundation.
The opening ceremony of this edition was attended by the deputy general director of Sports Sciences of the CSD, Aitor Canibe, and the mayor of Miranda de Ebro, Aitana Hernando. On the part of the aforementioned Subdirectorate General of the CSD, Ignacio Melendro also participated in the presentations and the organization of the conference, with an intervention on the digitization of the Sports Medicine Centers and Carmen Arnaudas, in the coordination of the Group.
The director of the Sports Medicine Center of the CAR of Madrid, Fernando Gutiérrez has moderated the round table Present and future: new technologies, in which the challenge of artificial intelligence applied to the field of health and sport has been analyzed. This subject is present in the digitisation objectives of the Sports Medicine Centres included in the funding lines of the European funds that the Government allocates to sport.
Avilés Working Group
It is a working group made up of medical representatives of the public Sports Medicine centers of the Autonomous Communities, High Performance Centers and Sports Technification and local entities, whose objectives are:
- Harmonize the technical and professional work of the Sports Medicine Centers that depend on public entities.
- Find solutions to common operating problems. Share and improve technical and scientific knowledge.
- Improve the training of the professionals who serve in these Centers.
- Disponer de un foro de intercambio de ideas, inquietudes e iniciativas en el ámbito profesional.
To this end, the Group establishes annual meetings of scientific and technical content that serve as an exchange of experiences in the field of Sports Medicine and whose conclusions can serve the public leaders to implement the most efficient policies. At the same time, it acts as a means of distributing knowledge and relations among the heads of the sports medicine centres of the country ' s public administration.
