The CSD and Iberdrola renew the agreement to promote women in sports

Madrid, 15 July 2019.The programme Universe woman of the High Council of sports and the company Iberdrola will continue to work to promote the participation of women in sports. The minister of culture and Sport in functions, José Guirao, and the president of Iberdrola, Ignacio Heartthrob, have signed this Monday, the renewal of this collaboration agreement that helps 16 sports federations.

The programme Universe woman from CSD has been recognized by the government as an event of exceptional public interest and aims at promoting and increasing the participation of women in all sports areas, thus contributing to the improvement and social transformation through the values of sport.

The collaboration of Iberdrola with Universe Woman is an aid to 16 sports federations: Gymnastics, Triathlon, Rugby, canoeing, badminton, football, handball, volleyball, Hockey, Tennis, athletics, karate, boxing, surfing, sports of ice and Fencing. Furthermore, gives its name to 22 national leagues of maximum category of different sports and 35 other competitions.

Until now the union between Universe wife and Iberdrola has increased the level of competitions, has allowed the return to Spain of high-level athletes, has improved the ability to compete of clubs and has strengthened the visibility of women athlete.

For the culture minister in functions, the sport is “removing consciences, reaching positions that, not so long ago, seemed distant. Since the government we have drafted the new law of sport that contains, among other things, the professionalization of sport, equal prizes, maternity support and in favour of conciliation and egalitarian integration in management of sports entities. ”

Guirao has also pointed out that culture and sport enrich one another. “Teamwork, constancy or the effort are values that culture, which makes it more diluted can enhance learning of sport. The signature of today is making visible a trajectory is a magnificent opportunity to say that we are on the right path, which we are working well, that what has been achieved was a dream some years ago, but that our ability to dream is endless and will continue to do so. ”

The event, held today in the centre of High performance of Madrid have also included the president of the High Council of sports and secretary of state for sport, María José Free, as well as ambassadors of the programme Universe woman, Anabel Medina and Eva Balding; presidents and sportsmen representatives of the 16 federations benefiting from the agreement. Among them, DG Navarro, Celia Jiménez, Sara Stole, maría López, Carolina Marín or Maialen Chourraut.

The programme Universe woman is one of the four sports projects that drives the CSD, part of the ministry of culture and sport, which has been recognized as Event of exceptional Public interest.
