CSD and the University of Alicante sign a protocol to promote research in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences
Madrid, February 7, 2025.- The President of the Higher Council of Sports (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, and the Director of the University of Alicante, Amparo Navarro, have signed a joint action protocol on Friday to promote and promote research in the Sciences of Physical Activity and Sport.
The signing ceremony took place in the rectoral office, in the presence, among others, of the vice-rector of Culture, Sport and University Extension, Catalina Iliescu, and of the Olympic medallist and sports doctor José Antonio Corbalán.
The protocol opens the possibility of developing academic, training, cultural and university extension programs, as well as consulting and assistance activities that may be relevant to the sport sector. It also enables the future creation of a new institutional chair, the Pedro Ferrándiz Chair for Studies on Sport, endorsed by the CSD.
This chair is intended as a core of reflection, debate and research in the field of physical activity and sport and may organise research, training, dissemination and transfer of knowledge.
The CSD strengthens its commitment to university sport
José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes has recalled that the CSD is making a “determined commitment to university sport” and has assured that “the right conditions are now in place to regain the name of Pedro Ferrándiz for this new chair of studies on sport”.
For his part, Catalina Iliescu stressed the importance of sport for the University of Alicante. Not in vain, the degree of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences and masters, doctorates and research on this subject are taught, but the university has a large team of sports teams and strongly supports women’s and inclusive sport.
Juan Antonio Corbalán, legend of Spanish basketball, Olympic medalist and sports physician, has expressed his thanks to the University of Alicante for “taking the first steps, with this protocol, for the implementation of this new chair that will bear the name of Pedro Ferrándiz”, of whom he is a disciple. He also wanted to emphasise “the important mission of universities to transmit, from training and values, the cultural background of excellence in sport, beyond pure competition”.
