The CSD announces a new edition of the National Sports Awards

 

  • With them, the Government of Spain will recognize athletes, federations, clubs, companies, foundations and entities that have contributed in a prominent way to promote and disseminate physical and sporting activity during the year 2024.
  • The deadline for submitting nominations is 1 September.

  

Madrid, August 1, 2025.- The Superior Sports Council (CSD) has convened a new edition of the National Sports Awards, with which the Government of Spain will recognize the people and entities that have distinguished themselves most in the competition or in the promotion of sport during 2024.

The National Sports Awards are the highest award in sport awarded by the Government of Spain. With them, the CSD annually recognizes people and entities that contribute a special value to the Spanish sport, whether from competition, management or representation.

The National Sports Awards also expressly distinguish athletes and institutions from two communities specially linked to Spain, such as the Ibero-American Community and the European Union.

The candidacies corresponding to the merits of the year 2024 may be proposed by federated athletes, sports associations, national and regional sports federations, private institutions, persons or entities recognized with any National Sports Prize in previous editions, as well as by any organ of the Public Administrations.

The deadline for submitting nominations will remain open until 1 September.

A jury appointed by the president of the CSD among athletes and sports professionals will be in charge of analyzing the candidacies presented and choosing the winners.

 

The prizes established for the edition corresponding to 2024 are:

Rey Felipe Award, for the best Spanish sportsman of the year.

Queen Letizia Award, for the best Spanish sportswoman of the year.

Princess Leonor Award, to the best athlete under 18 years of age.

Infanta Sofia Prize, to the person, entity or institution that has been specially highlighted in the sport of people with disabilities, inclusive or paralympic sport or in its promotion.

King Juan Carlos Award, to the revealing athlete, male or female.

Reina Sofía Prize, for fair play and the eradication of violence (machismo, racism, homophobia or any of its expressions) in sport.

Ibero-American Community Trophy, to reward the Ibero-American athlete, entity, club or institution that has stood out most during the year in its sports activities.

European Union Trophy, to reward the athlete, or the entity, club or institution of any member country of the European Union that has stood out most during the year in its sports activities.

Barón de Güell Cup, to the best team or selection of the year.

Stadium Cup, to the person or entity that has excelled in the promotion of sport, especially grassroots sport.

Superior Sports Council Award, to the local Spanish entity (municipality, province, island, region, townships, metropolitan areas, etc.) which has stood out the most in the promotion of sport and physical activity.

Joaquín Blume Trophy, to the University, School or educational center of any level that has been specially distinguished during the year for its promotion and promotion of sport.

National Award for the Arts and Sciences Applied to Sport, to the professional or entity that has excelled in the dissemination of physical and sporting activity.

Francisco Fernández Ochoa National Award, to a trajectory notoriously dedicated to the practice, organization, direction, promotion and development of sport.

 

A List of Legend Winners

Among the winners since 1982 with the National Sports Awards are some of the most recognized athletes in the history of Spain, as well as institutions that have contributed decisively to the configuration of the Spanish sports ecosystem.

Blanca Fernández Ochoa, Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, Gemma Mengual, Sandra Sánchez, Alexia Putellas and Susana Rodríguez stand out in the women’s category, while Carlos Sainz, Miguel Indurain, Pau Gasol, Rafa Nadal, Saúl Craviotto, Ricky Rubio and Carlos Alcaraz do so in the men’s category, among many others.
