Madrid, 17 may 2021.The high council of sports (CSD), through a resolution of its president, josé Manuel Franco, has decided to give a golden plaque of the royal order of sporting merit to the first female team FC Barcelona Football in recognition of its history of recent years that has driven them to be champions of Champions League for the first time in its history.
For Jose Manuel Franco “ this is a well-deserved recognition, puts in value of what has been achieved by the FC Barcelona female in recent years and is a prize for the job well done ”. “ They have achieved a milestone for women ’ s soccer of our country to be the first team to win the Champions League, something that has all my admiration ”, has added.
This is the first decoration conferred by Franco since he came to office a few weeks ago and wanted it to women's football team whose professionalization is one of its main commitments and has reiterated on several occasions. The decision to give this distinction to the club azulgrana has transmitted this morning to its president, Joan Laporta.
The golden is a distinction given taking into account “ merit and circumstances of the professional sports and of individuals and entities ”, and is the highest recognition that might grant the CSD to entities or institutions.
