Segovia has been the central venue in Spain for the European Sports Week in 2025.
Madrid, September 30, 2025.- The European Sports Week closed its tenth edition on Tuesday, once again highlighting the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle to guarantee physical and emotional well-being.
From 23 to 30 September, simultaneously throughout Europe, the tenth anniversary of this initiative promoted by the European Commission and coordinated in Spain by the Higher Sports Council (CSD), in collaboration with Autonomous Communities, local corporations and sports entities, has been commemorated.
On this occasion, the headquarters of the activities developed in our country has been Segovia, which in 2025 holds the title of European City of Sport. The Plaza del Azoguejo and the Plaza de la Artillería, at the foot of the emblematic aqueduct, have been the chosen settings for the organization of multisport activities, free and open to all the public. The attendees have been able to try different disciplines such as fencing, rugby, climbing, basketball or skating, among others.
In the space, adapted for all audiences, collective classes of body balance, taekwondo and sports dance have also been taught in a fun day of “Sport and Family”. In addition, a popular march has brought together hundreds of runners. The #BeActive Night, the traditional brooch to the central events of European Sports Week, whose programme of activities ends this Tuesday, has already been held late in the evening.
José Manuel Calderón, Teresa Perales and Theresa Zabell, ambassadors of the SED2025
This initiative has in all its editions the support of athletes of reference, who act as ambassadors for the dissemination of the different activities.
On this occasion, three legends of the Spanish sport such as José Manuel Calderón, Teresa Perales and Theresa Zabell have been the protagonists of the spot of the #BeActive campaign. Under the motto “It’s never too late to start playing sports. It’s never too early to start taking care of yourself” they have encouraged to combat sedentarism through sports practice.
The European Sports Week will formally close in November, with the award ceremony of the CSD-BeActive Awards, which annually recognize participation in this initiative.
