Free: “The Ibero-American Network woman and sport is a very powerful tool to move towards real equality ”
- The president of CSD has participated in the end of the VI seminar “sports diary with gender approach ” in Indian Cartagena (Colombia)
- This event represents the reactivation of the network, a forum of cooperation that had not met since eight years ago and involving more than twenty Latin American countries
Indian Cartagena (Colombia), 21 June 2019.-The secretary of state for sport and president of CSD, María José Free, has put today in value the reactivation of the Ibero-American Network woman and sport, a forum idle for more than eight years and that unites more than 20 countries iberomericanos. “is a very powerful tool to move towards real equality, ” said Free during the closing of the VI Seminar“ Sports diary with gender approach ” that was held in Indian Cartagena (Colombia) and aimed at relaunching this network.
“the final challenge is real equality. The day in which we do not speak of sport with gender tags, that the covers are filled by equally champions and champions. And this social change in mentality and education will come thanks to the commitment and effort of all, ” said the president of CSD. Free has participated in the seminar next to the secretary of Sports and recreation Rich Port, Watch Parés Sánchez; the director of COLDEPORTES, Ernesto Lucena; and the Regional director of WADA, Maria José Pesce, among other authorities.
In this forum, the secretary of state for sport has also explained what the tools that is pushing the government of Spain to enhance the role of women in the world of sport. Among them, has highlighted the draft bill of sport that has been drafted and which provides specific steps as the professionalization of sport, equal prizes, measures in favour of conciliation, maternity support or integration egalitarian in management of sports entities, among others.
“in Spain have already begun to drive policies in this direction and one of the best ways to do that is legislating, establishing laws make reality equal rights between men and women, ” said Free, which has also value the project ‘ Universe Woman ’ driven by the High Council of sports.
Spain has been the initiator of this event which involves reactivating the Ibero-American Network woman and Sport (REDIMYD), which has as main objective lay the groundwork for the development of policies and action plans in sport from a gender perspective.
Ibero-American Network woman and Sport (REDIMYD)
The REDIMYD was founded in the year 2009 within the framework of the XV General assembly of Iberoamerican Council of sport (CID). Since then, five workshops have been held, the last more than eight years ago (2011) in Barcelona.
During this stay, during the last meeting of CID that took place last February in Punta del Este (Uruguay), Spain explicitly requested its revival. An initiative that was backed jointly by the rest of member countries in the final declaration of the event.
Holding the VI seminar, organised in collaboration with the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation to development (ACEID), supposed to fulfil this commitment and serve as a starting point to the consolidation of a forum created to promote the role of women in sport.
In Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, chilli, Cuba, equator, The Savior, Guatemala, Honduras, mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Perú, Portugal, port rich, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela, are some of the countries participating in this international forum.
