The Government allocates 17.9 million to the CAAC to promote equality and inclusion in sport
- The agreement has been approved by the Sectoral Commission of Sport and must be ratified by the Sectoral Conference, the body presided over by Minister Miquel Iceta
- The CSD has already made available to the autonomies almost 102 million euros of the Recovery Plan, for policies of digitization, ecological transition and equality
The Sectoral Committee on Sport has today approved the allocation of EUR 17.9 million between the Autonomous Communities and Cities for the promotion of equality for women and the inclusion and equality of people with disabilities in sport, a budget item from the Social Plan for Sport that will allocate EUR 77 million in the coming years from the European Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Funds.
This new line of aid should shortly be initialled by the Sectoral Conference on Sport, which is presided over by Minister Miquel Iceta. It is especially aimed at reducing inequality in sport, for a clear direct action for gender equality and for people with disabilities in this field.
Likewise, it is intended to grant greater opportunities and promote social cohesion and labour improvements in the sector with a vocation for permanence, linked to basic sport, talent acquisition, protection and integration of young people and groups at risk of exclusion in sport.
For the president of the CSD, José Manuel Franco, “the new model of sport must be more sustainable, more technological, and necessarily, more egalitarian. Equality is an unequivocal symptom of good democratic health and a sign of an advanced and progressive society. Also the inclusion. This government’s commitment to these two issues is unquestionable, and we will continue to encourage it to be noted in all our policies.”
Thanks to this budget line of 17.9 million, various actions can be planned to increase the presence and visibility of women in the sports field, as well as the promotion of the inclusion and equality of people with disabilities in sport.
The distribution between the Autonomous Communities and Cities will be proportional according to criteria that will take into account the total population, the number of people with disabilities, non-university educational centers, autonomous federations or population density.
Sport, the engine of recovery through the Sector Development Plan
These 17.9 million euros, aimed at promoting equality and inclusion, are part of the Social Plan for Sport, which has a total budget of 77 million euros from the Sports Sector Promotion Plan, a project funded by European funds and structured in two other areas of action: Digitalization Plan (75 million) and Ecological Transition Plan (146 million).
To date, and according to these three axes, EUR 102 million of the Recovery Plan has already been territorialized: EUR 75 million for the modernisation and ecological transition of sports facilities, EUR 9 million for the Digital Modernisation of the Sports Ecosystem project for the establishment of a common strategy for the prescription of physical activity and exercise and these EUR 17.9 million for the Social Plan.
Spain is the only country in the European Union that has included sport within the sectors that will receive European funds for economic and social recovery.
