The high council of sports supported the candidacy of Grenada to the European Games University

Granada, 21 march.- The evaluation commission, the University European Games EUSA Games – 2028/2030 has visited this thursday, the city of Granada, with the aim of analysing the spanish proposal. The committee has conducted an oral presentation of the nomination by the director of the centre of sporting activities of the university of Granada, Jordi Mercadé Torrás, and of the third deputy mayor of the municipality of Granada, Ana Isabel Agudo Martínez, who have been accompanied by the director-general of Sports, Fernando Molinero.

The Higher Council of sports is one of the institutions that supported the candidature of Grenada to these European Games, which present University a unique opportunity to launch the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of its university through sport. The olympics, which are held every two years, it would be an instrument of dissemination of the 500th anniversary of the university institution, because it would allow the long history academic, social, cultural and sports of Grenada to the entire university community and european sport.

In his statement, the director-general has highlighted "Sports the commitment of the council for sports, within the project Team Spain, in sport at school and university age".

"Reconocemos the importance of promoting sport as an essential part of the comprehensive development of our young people, being España the only european country that has, since 2021, a specific annual funding for the improvement of sports facilities of our universities with a view to organizing international events. The high council of sports is aware of the extreme importance of the organizing sporting events at university level, and that is why i reiterate the unwavering support of the spanish government", has indicated Fernando Molinero.

The University European Games count, in addition, with the support from the city of Granada, the provincial council and the Junta de andalucia. We also have offered their support of her Majesty the king and the Spanish Olympic Committee. The candidacy is also supported by the chamber of commerce of Granada, GEGSA, and the confederation Of Entrepreneurs.

Since the federal Level, the university of Granada has received support for the organization of the European Games 2028 university federations of badminton, basketball, handball, soccer, karate, judo and sports partners, swimming, rowing, rugby, taekwondo, table tennis, tennis, triathlon and volleyball.
