Collaboration and inspiration
These awards, granted by the Women’s Institute in collaboration with the Higher Sports Council are a recognition of one of the main Spanish referents and pioneers in breaking the social obstacles to the practice of sport by women.
Elia María González-Álvarez y López-Chicheri, better known as Lilí Álvarez, was the first Spanish sportswoman to participate in an Olympic Games in 1924. Álvarez, besides being a tennis player and athlete, was a writer, journalist and defender of women’s rights.
