Franco has claimed responsibility for sport as a link between europe and Latin America during the XXIX General Assembly of the Latin American Council of sport (CID), which is currently being held in Cartagena de Indias.

“ sport is being an active part in the collective effort you are allowing the configuration of fairer, more capable, egalitarian and inclusive ”, has assured Franco.

The secretary of state for sports has invited the government representatives from the countries of the region to attend the conference on gender equality in sport, to be held in november in Madrid, in the context of the spanish presidency of the council of the european Union.



Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), 3 may 2023.- The president of the supreme council for sports (CSD), José Manuel Franco, has participated this wednesday in la jornada inaugural de la XXIX General Assembly of the Latin American Council of sport (CID), which is currently being held in Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), where he has underlined the commitment of the government of spain for strengthening collaboration in sport between Latin America and europe.

During his intervention at the meeting of this wednesday, held in the training centre of the spanish agency for international cooperation for development (AECID), Franco has emphasized the importance of sport as “ an active part in the collective effort you are allowing the configuration of fairer, more capable, egalitarian and inclusive. ” “ sport is having a key role in the development of societies, as an element that promotes, inter alia, the social evolution, territorial cohesion, inclusion and equality ”, said the secretary of State for sport.

Franco has repaired, also, in the shared values of the regions of Latin America and europe and has advocated the creation of a “ common agenda ”. “ There is a shared willingness to common responses to global challenges we face in the area of sport, through a multilateral and collective action ”, has indicated the president of the CSD.

Reiterating its desire to strengthen the union between europe and latin america, José Manuel Franco has invited the governments of the region to participate in the conference on Igualdad de género in sport, to be held in Madrid on 14 and 15 november, in the context of the spanish presidency of the council of the european Union.

“ the fight for gender equality has emerged in recent years in a shared value Latin America and europe. And, in the relentless pursuit of social justice, women cannot be left behind ”, has highlighted.

In that regard, Franco has considered the leadership of the Latin American Council of sport in the development of public policy of equality through sport and value the work of the ibero-american network on women and Sport.

“ ensure that all women and girls can realize their full potential still requires, today, transformative changes that we are prepared to address. With new laws, policies and processing with a broader, to ensure the effective participation of women in sport (…) El world cannot wait any longer to eradicate existing disparities between men and women ”, has abounded.

The president of the CSD has explained that “ the government of spain wishes to honour the historic breakthrough achieved by the women and to reaffirm its commitment to gender equality during the spanish presidency of the council of the european union, in the second half of this year. ” “ In this context, there shall be an opportunity to establish a political dialogue on gender equality, in which the region of Latin America is called upon to participate ”, also stressed.

The conference will address women's access to sport, the prevention of violence, female leadership, the professionalization of sport and the visibility of women.

“ we want this international forum enjoys the protection and the presence of the governments of the states members of the european union and latin america, in addition to prestigious international entities such as UNESCO, the un or the Global Observatory of Equality. Because together we can implement the Goal of sustainable development number 5, which sets a target to achieve genuine equality between men and women ”, pointed out.

The training centre of the spanish agency for international cooperation for development (AECID) is the selected space for the holding of the twenty-ninth General Assembly of the CID, which will continue this thursday with the second working day. At the same participating government leaders of the Sport of the 22 countries of the region, as well as representatives of relevant international institutions, such as the Ibero-American Secretariat (SEGIB SHOULD), the German Agency for cooperation (GIZ), the inter-american development bank (IDB), the bank of development in latin america (CAF), UNESCO and LaLiga, among others.



American summit of sport

From 3 to 5 may, Cartagena de Indias hosts simultaneously the General assembly of the Latin American Council of sport and the American Summit of sport, which includes the assemblies of the american board of sport; as well as the regional councils, the South American Council of sport (CONSUDE) and the caribbean and Central American sport (CONCECADE).
