Madrid, May 21, 2025.- The Superior Sports Council (CSD) learned on Tuesday of the ruling of the Provincial Court of Valladolid that condemns, for the first time in Spain as a crime of hatred, the racist insults made in the framework of a football match.
The sentence passed against those accused of insulting the Real Madrid player Vinicius Junior in December 2022 is a pioneer in the Spanish legal system and marks a before and an after in the fight against racism in our country.
It is the strongest evidence that this scourge is being resolutely attacked by disciplinary, administrative and judicial means and sends a conclusive message: racism has no place in sport.
The CSD wishes to show its support for all those sportsmen and women who have suffered acts of racism or intolerance, while reiterating its unwavering commitment to upholding the values of respect, equality, inclusion and tolerance that sport must always inspire.
Support for institutions and entities in the defence of fundamental rights
Finally, the CSD considers that this court ruling supports the institutions and entities that defend fundamental rights inside and outside the playing field and that work to make sports spaces safe and free from violence.
Against this scourge, work is being carried out in a permanent and coordinated manner within the framework of the State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport, the collegiate body responsible for the formulation and implementation of active policies against violence, intolerance and the prevention of racist, xenophobic and LGTBIphobic practices in sport.
The Standing Committee, which meets biweekly, is composed of representatives of the Higher Sports Council, the Ministry of the Interior, the National Police Corps, the Civil Guard, the Royal Spanish Football Federation, LaLiga and ACB and the Office of the Attorney General of the State
