The Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría, held this Wednesday a meeting with the members of the 4x100 and 4x400 relay at the High Performance Center of the Superior Sports Council (CSD) in Madrid.

Madrid, June 25, 2025.- The Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Pilar Alegría, held a meeting this Wednesday with the members of the 4x400 and 4x100 athletics relay, to personally convey her congratulations on the recent conquest of a gold and a silver in Guangzhou (China) and wish them luck in the face of their next competitions.

Taking advantage of the presence of the Spanish team at the High Performance Center of the Superior Sports Council (CSD) in Madrid, the city that will host the European Team Championship from June 26 to 29, Minister Pilar Alegría has held a meeting with the athletes of 4x400 and 4x100, who were gold and silver medalists, respectively, in the Relay World Championships.

In that event also shone the mixed relay, which like the women’s relays of 4x100 and 4x400 achieved the qualification for the World Championships that will be held in September in Tokyo.

Paula Sevilla, Daniela Fra, Blanca Hervás, Esperança Cladera, Jaël Bestué, Maribel Pérez and Carmen Avilés received the congratulations of the minister minutes before starting their training session at the CAR in Madrid.

“It is a pleasure to remember with you the emotion that you made us feel in Guangzhou,” said Pilar Alegría.

The Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports has highlighted the way in which they became “the protagonists of a historic moment in Spanish athletics” and has pointed out that they are all already “referents” as a result of their performance in Guangzhou.

He also reminded Eva Santidrián, who will not compete with the Spanish team in this European Championship, but was part of the success in the Relay World Championships.

Pilar Alegría has wished the athletes luck for this summer’s most important continental event. The Spanish team will compete this week in the Vallebello Stadium with the motivation of achieving for the first time a podium position in a European Team Championship.

The meeting was also attended by the president of the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA), Raúl Chapado; the coach José Peiró; the head of the National Relay Plan, Toni Puig; and the coaches Berni Domínguez and Ricardo Diéguez, to whom Pilar Alegría has extended congratulations on the results obtained and the progression of Spain in this discipline.

In short, the two medals, the three Spanish records and the classification for the World Cup confirmed the growing importance of this specialty, which the RFEA has promoted under the National Relay Plan. This project is supported by CSD through Team España.
