Rodríguez Uribes accompanies the Spanish basketball team at the start of their preparation for the Eurobasket

The Family defends this summer the continental title won in 2022.

Madrid, July 29, 2025.- The president of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, attended on Tuesday the official presentation of the men's basketball team, in what is the beginning of the preparation for the Eurobasket of the team led by Sergio Scariolo.

The fifteen players summoned by the national coach have been the protagonists of a symbolic act, which has taken place at the headquarters of Endesa. The Spanish national team has been dominated by the president of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), Elisa Aguilar, and by the CEO of the electricity company, José Bogas.

The stage, inspired by the Roman Empire as a reference to the legacy of the national basketball that gives name to the Imperium Nostrum Tour, has passed all the players summoned: Alberto Abalde, Santi Aldama, Darío Brizuela, Alberto Díaz, Willy Hernangómez, Juancho Hernangómez, Sergio de Larrea, Xabi López-Arostegui, Eli John Ndiaye, Joel Parra, Jaime Pradilla, Josep Puerto, Mario Saint-Supéry, Yankuba Sima and Santi Yusta.

It has also been presented to the technical team of the selection, with the coach Sergio Scariolo in charge.

Along with him, assistant coaches Salva Camps, Víctor García, Jorge Lorenzo, Fran Vázquez and Rodrigo San Miguel; Dr. Carlos Salas; physical trainers Enrique Salinas and Javi H. Bello; the physiotherapists Jordan Sospedra, José Antonio Fernández and Tomás Richartz; María Reina, from the performance area; and the delegates, Javier Cabrerizo and David Ortega. Txemi Urtasun and Ricardo Úriz, complete this summer’s staff as volunteer coaches.

The president of the FEB, Elisa Aguilar, highlighted during the presentation of the men’s national team the deep gratitude to Endesa for its continued support to Spanish basketball, stressing that its support goes beyond the commercial and strengthens the common project.

Aguilar has marked the beginning of a new cycle with a renewed team, which represents the generational relay, and has asked players to compete with the same spirit, dedication and values that the selection showed in 2024. In an emotional closing, he has publicly acknowledged the work of Sergio Scariolo, whom he has defined as “an example of commitment” and “a key piece in the leadership that has led Spain to the top of European basketball.”

José Bogas, CEO of Endesa, thanked the team for its presence and showed their support: “Endesa is proud to welcome you again this year to our headquarters, which is also your home.” In addition, he wanted to thank the players for their commitment by saying: “You do it out of conviction, with dedication, leaving aside well-deserved breaks and time with your families.”

The president of the Superior Sports Council, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, also stressed that “this selection has followed a line of continuity”. “We have the same selection as always, Europa Imperium Nostrum represents us. We have many possibilities to do things well, as we always do,” he said.

The national coach, Sergio Scariolo, has assured that the objective of the players is “to be faithful to the collective game”, convinced that the “generational relay is ready”. “The most beautiful thing is to see a team working,” he added.

Willy Hernangómez has stressed the commitment of the entire staff and has asked the group to be employed with “sacrifice, fun and pride”.
