Barcelona, 8 July 2025.- The President of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, attended this Tuesday in Barcelona the presentation of the Spanish and European Championships in cycling, a double sporting event that has the institutional boost of the Government of Spain and the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The Bike Park of the mountain resort of La Molina, which manages Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), will be the stage on 18, 19 and 20 July of the Spanish Championships of this specialty. For their part, the European Championships will be held from 1 to 3 August, hoping to bring together more than 400 top athletes from 20 countries, which guarantees the international projection of the event.
José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes stressed that the celebration of these championships in La Molina is “the result of the joint work of the Government of Spain, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the sports federations”, as well as a manifestation of the “commitment of the Higher Sports Council with the development of sport and the organization of large events”.
“Together with the Generalitat, we have done a good job to be able to enjoy an event like this in La Molina, which offers important added value. Here, sport and sustainability are combined and the rich natural heritage of the Catalan Pyrenees is valued”, he said.
The Minister of Sports, Berni Álvarez; the President of FGC, Carles Ruiz; the President of the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation, José Vicioso; and the President of the Catalan Cycling Federation, Joaquim Vilaplana, have also participated in the presentation of the Spanish and European MTB Championships. Berni Álvarez stressed that these championships “are very important because they help to position Catalonia as a world reference for sustainable sports tourism and a reference destination in cycling and mountain sports”.
“Within the framework of this commitment to 360 sport, the Government is committed to making sporting events sustainable and with a social and economic return. Requirements that meet the two appointments of La Molina, which also decentralize and de-seasonalize the offer of great competitions,” he said.
For his part, Carles Ruiz has indicated that “these championships are another sign of FGC’s clear commitment to Catalan sport and the organization of first-class sports competitions”.
“In the ski and mountain resorts of Ferrocarrils there are more than one hundred days a year in which some kind of sports competition is held. This shows that we are prepared to organize these types of events and that the territories have a great capacity to host them,” he explained.
The Bike Park of La Molina and the tour
La Molina has prepared the circuit of La Comella to offer a tour at the level of the contest, with facilities and an ideal environment to enjoy both the competition and the offer of activities offered by the station.
The route has a length of 2.8 kilometers and a negative slope of 458 meters. The competitors will start at 2,076 meters and will descend to 1,658 meters. The track combines natural areas with parts of bike park, resulting in an attractive descent, although also marked by physical and technical requirements, at the height of a European Championship.
The Higher Sports Council, an organ under the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, as well as the Department of Sports and Ferrocarrils agree that the organization of these European Championships will strengthen the positioning of Spain and Catalonia as ideal places for the practice of MTB and as a reference destination in cycling and mountain sports.
