Murcia, 2 July 2024.- The Spanish Government has earmarked more than 10 million euros since 2021 for the promotion of sports infrastructures and policies in the Region of Murcia. This is what the president of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, said during his institutional visit to the Region, during which he shared with local authorities the main lines of action in sports matters of the Government.

The agenda of the Secretary of State for Sport in the Region of Murcia began this Monday in the town of Calasparra where, together with the mayor Teresa García, visited the facilities of the School of Canoeing and the pier of the Río Segura, the track of athletics and the municipal football field.

On Tuesday, after a meeting with the delegate of the Government, Mariola Guevara, Rodríguez Uribes presided an act with the municipalities and the institutions benefiting from the grants from the European Funds with the aim of sharing information on the investment in Águilas, Beniel, Blanca, Bullas, Cartagena, Ceutí, Fortuna, La Unión, Lorquí, Ula, Murcia, San Javier, Santomera, Torre Pacheco, Yecla and the CTD Murcia.

During the meeting, the president of the CSD stressed “the necessary collaboration between public administrations for the proper development of any state policy, as is the case of sports policy in Spain”, which has been marked, as Rodríguez Uribes pointed out, by “legislative reforms and also by budget investment”.

Specifically, the president of the CSD pointed out the almost 5.7 million destined for projects to promote sports tourism in the Region of Murcia; the 3.65 million for the internationalization and modernization of sports infrastructures; and more than a million euros for management and equipment expenses of the CTD Infanta Cristina.

In total, 10,425,142 euros distributed in 27 local and regional projects, in addition to the collaboration with the CTD.

These items come from the chapter of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) that the Government of Spain has dedicated to the promotion of the sports sector and that amount to a total investment of more than 300 million euros, channeled largely through the Autonomous Communities.

In this sense, Rodríguez Uribes recalled that “Spain has been the only country in Europe that has included sport and physical activity as one of the 10 levers of its Recovery Plan”.

Visit to the CTD Infanta Cristina

After the meeting in the Government Delegation, the president of the CSD plans to visit this same Tuesday the Sports Technification Center of the Region of Murcia, located in the town of Los Alcázares.

With a total area of close to 30,000 square meters, the CTD Infanta Cristina, with its regional ownership, has a sailing area, canoeing rafts, a straight track for athletics, boxing and combat rooms and a sports hall.

The agenda of the Secretary of State for Sport in Murcia will conclude with a visit to the municipal facilities of Cartagena and Ceutí.
