Valencia, 13 September 2024.- The Spanish Government has earmarked more than 16.7 million euros since 2021 for the promotion of sports infrastructures and policies in the Valencian Community, details of which were announced by the President of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, during an institutional visit to the region on Friday.
Accompanied by the delegate of the Government, Pilar Bernabé, the Secretary of State for Sport has met with representatives of the local entities benefiting from the grants from the Next Generation Funds to monitor the investment in the municipalities of Crevillent and La Nucía, of the province of Alicante; Almassora, of the province of Castellón; and Almaserra, Canet d´en Berenguer, Gandía, L´Alcudia, Lliria, Ontinyent, Valencia and Vilamarxant, of the province of Valencia.
During the meeting, the president of the CSD has stressed “the necessary collaboration between public administrations for the proper development of any state policy, as is the case of sports policy in Spain”, which since 2018 is marked, as Rodríguez Uribes pointed out, “by legislative reforms and also by budget investment”.
In total, the Government of Spain has made 16,787,110.70 euros, from European funds, available to the entities of the Valencian Community.
Specifically, more than EUR 8.7 million for the modernisation, digitisation and promotion of sport in rural areas; EUR 3.2 million in aid for F League clubs; EUR 3.1 million for the promotion of sustainable sports tourism in the community; about EUR 3 million in aid for sports facilities to host international events and about EUR 1.5 million for the promotion of equality in sport.
These items come from the chapter of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) that the Government of Spain has dedicated to the promotion of the sports sector and which amounts to a total of 300 million euros, channeled largely through the Autonomous Communities.
In this regard, Rodríguez Uribes recalled that “Spain has been the only country in the European Union that has included sport and physical activity as one of the ten levers of its Recovery Plan”.
“Dialogue and agreement to contribute to equality and social cohesion”
In the meeting with representatives of the entities benefiting from grants and grants of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, the Secretary of State for Sport, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, has highlighted the importance of collaboration between administrations.
“On the part of the Government of Spain there is a clear desire for dialogue and agreement, as manifested in the cofinancing of projects in your municipalities. Dialogue, agreement and collaboration between public administrations are essential principles in the proper development of sports policy,” he said.
“This is the best way to make it possible for sport to contribute to equality, to the social and territorial cohesion of the Valencian Community and of Spain. Undoubtedly, those who will thank us most will be the high-performance, high-level athletes and, above all, the citizens who will be able to exercise their right to sport and physical activity,” added Rodríguez Uribes.
For her part, the delegate of the Government in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, pointed out that through sport "the Government of Spain has demonstrated and is demonstrating its commitment to the Community". “More than 16 million euros have been transferred in recent years by the Higher Sports Council (CSD) to the Valencian Community in different calls for grants. And they have benefited eleven municipalities of the Valencian Community and seven sports entities. It also shows that the government of Pedro Sánchez is clear that sports policy is part of the country project," he said.
