Rodríguez Uribes participates in the tribute to the first Spanish team champion of the Davis Cup
Marbella (Málaga), September 13, 2025.- The President of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, participated this Saturday in Marbella (Málaga) in the tribute to the Spanish team that won the Davis Cup in the edition held in 2000.
In the context of the qualifying round against Denmark and coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the first Spanish victory in the Davis Cup, the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) has paid an emotional tribute to the players and captains who played that feat.
In representation of that generation, the players Àlex Corretja, Joan Balcells, ‘Pato’ Clavet and captain Juan Avendaño jumped to the central court of the Puente Romano Tennis Club, accompanied by two legends of Spanish tennis, such as Arantxa Sánchez Vicario and Manolo Orantes, the tennis player Feliciano López and the then president of the RFET, Agustí Pujol.
The event was also attended by the current president of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, Miguel Díaz Román; the Deputy Mayor and Delegate of Sports, Health, Consumption and Services of the City of Marbella, Lisandro Vieytes; the General Secretary for Sport of the Junta de Andalucía, Isabel Sánchez; and the President of the Andalusian Tennis Federation, Alberto Rodríguez.
The honorees received as a souvenir a numbered illustration by the Mallorcan artist Marian Femenias-Moratinos and a limited series commemorative t-shirt of the sports brand JOMA.
The event was presided over by an original replica of that first Davis Cup won by the Spanish team.
