It is the first time that Spain classifies two couples in ice dance, a historical milestone to which this weekend has been added the square achieved by Nil Llop, the first Spanish speed skater who will compete in an Olympic Games.
Madrid, December 15, 2025.- The president of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, received this Monday at the headquarters of the agency the five Spaniards classified for the Winter Olympic Games in the modality of artistic ice skating.
Rodríguez Uribes has congratulated and desired the greatest successes to the two couples of ice dance formed by Olivia Smart and Tim Dieck, on the one hand, and Asaf Kazimov and Sofía Val, on the other, as well as Tomás Guarino, who competes in individual category. All of them will represent Spain in the Olympic event of Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo, which will begin on February 6.
It is the first time that our country classifies two couples in ice dance for a Winter Olympic Games, which marks a milestone in the history of Spanish artistic skating. Likewise, the Guarino classification highlights the growth of the competitive level in the different disciplines within the artistic skating.
For the president of the CSD, the classification of the five Spanish athletes is a “sign of the good health of Spanish sport and, in particular, of our ice skating, which continues to achieve new goals”.
Rodríguez Uribes also highlighted the “pride” and “illusion” generated by these five athletes ahead of the Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo event, where he hopes that Spanish skaters will continue to “make history”.
To the Olympic places achieved by these five athletes in artistic skating has been added this weekend the one achieved by Nil Llop at the World Cup in Hamar (Norway), becoming the first Spanish skater classified for a Winter Olympic Games, in the absence of the official allocation by the International Skating Union.
The Secretary of State for Sport shared the satisfaction of the achievements of the Royal Spanish Federation of Ice Sports with the president of the entity, Frank González, also present at the meeting held at the headquarters of the CSD.
