Madrid, October 20, 2025.- The captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team, David Ferrer, announced on Monday at a press conference held at the headquarters of the Superior Sports Council (CSD) the call for the Bologna Finals (Italy), in which the national team will fight for its seventh title by the hand of Carlos Alcaraz, Jaume Munar, Pedro Martínez and Marcel Granollers.
They form the call that David Ferrer has offered for the Davis Cup Finals, which will be played in Bologna from November 18 to 23 and where Spanish tennis hopes to be able to offer “new satisfactions”, as desired by the president of the CSD, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, at the press conference that has taken place in the Samaranch Room.
“Tennis is a fundamentally individual sport,” reflected the Secretary of State for Sport, “but the Davis Cup makes it a team sport, in which it is essential to have a great captain, capable of bringing together players who give everything.”
The chosen ones by David Ferrer are Carlos Alcaraz, Jaume Munar, Pedro Martínez and Marcel Granollers, waiting to meet the fifth player who will be called when the competition approaches.
“We will be ready to compete, knowing that we have a tough quarter-final against the Czech Republic,” said David Ferrer.
The captain has been “confident and excited” when asked about his team’s options to be able to return from Bologna with the cup.
Spain, which won the Davis Cup in the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2019 editions, qualified for these Finals after winning in the previous qualifiers for the teams of Switzerland and Denmark.
Especially hard was the crossing before the Danes, resolved in Marbella with a historical comeback. And Spain came to lose the qualifying round in Puente Romano by 0-2. At that time, the team proved to have “a great captain and wardrobe,” according to the president of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, Miguel Díaz Román.
He is now confident that Spanish players will be able to “assert their experience and their high level” in Bologna.
In case of winning the Czech Republic, the Spanish team would cross in semifinals with the winner of the duel between Germany and Argentina. At the top of the table, the host and defending team of the title, Italy, will be measured against Austria, while France will be Belgium's rival.
