Rodríguez Uribes supports the women’s basketball team in the beginning of their preparation for the Eurobasket

The president of the CSD has accompanied the Spanish Basketball Federation at the presentation of the team.

Madrid, 19 May 2025.- The Spanish women’s basketball team presented its credentials for the Eurobasket, which will be held from 18 to 29 June, at an event held at Caixabank’s All in One venue.

A total of 17 players – among whom are Txell Alarcón, Carolina Guerrero and Noa Morro as guests – today begin the preparatory concentration for this summer’s great international commitment, in which the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) will pay tribute to the legacy of the national teams under the slogan “Imperium Nostrum”.

Alba Torrens, Maite Cazorla, Paula Ginzo, Raquel Carrera, Andrea Vilaró, María Araújo, Mariona Ortiz, Irati Etxarri, Aina Ayuso, Awa Fam, Iyana Martín, Helena Pueyo, Elena Buenavida and Ángela Mataix, along with Txell Alarcón, Carolina Guerrero and Noa Morro as guests, are the players that make up the winner.

"This call represents much more than a list of names. It is the expression of a project of country, equality and values,” said the president of the Superior Sports Council, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes.

The Secretary of State for Sport has expressed his “pride” for the successes achieved by the women’s team, which was runner-up in the last Eurobasket, and has pointed out that confidence in the international ones “is full”. “I wish you the best and we hope you will give us many joys this June,” said Rodríguez Uribes.

For her part, the president of the Spanish Basketball Federation, Elisa Aguilar, has appealed to the “pride, responsibility and talent of a group that represents an entire country”. “The word compromise is the one that best represents today’s act and the path that begins this selection. The commitment of our captain, Alba Torrens, who will lead the team with her leadership and example. The commitment of players such as Raquel Carrera or Maite Cazorla, who despite physical problems struggle to be here. Like all the players who have created their way to make the most of the selection,” he said.

Elisa Aguilar also thanked “the commitment of our coach, Miguel Méndez, which is a guarantee and will get the most out of our players both on a sporting and personal level”. “And, of course, from CaixaBank, because they have always supported us, and from CSD with sport in general and with women’s basketball in particular. It’s fundamental to the team’s successes,” he said.

The Director of Communication and Institutional Relations of CaixaBank, María Luisa Martínez Gistau, said: “This year opens a new stage, with new players and a renewed team, but what does not change is the ambition, the enthusiasm and the effort to face a new sporting challenge. You represent a dream and, from June, you will be part of the history of this sport and leave a legacy. We will be at your side, celebrating your successes and supporting this generational change that you have begun. We wish you to go as far as possible, because your successes are also those of CaixaBank.”

Representing the entire team, captain Alba Torrens has appealed to the group’s “union.” “We have a desire to do it well and, among all, work to grow and find our best version,” he said.

The Spanish coach, Miguel Méndez, has highlighted the group’s potential and explained: “Our accounts go through creating the best possible team and developing our best basketball, without looking back or looking too far forward. We have to prepare as well as possible to give our best version and compete at the highest level, because if we are at that level, we will compete to win any match.”

The women’s basketball team begins its preparation on Monday with a view to the group stage of the Eurobasket, which will measure it with the teams of Great Britain (19 June), Germany (20 June) and Sweden (22 June). The two best teams will have direct access to the quarterfinals.
