The XIV Conference of the Avilés Group brings together specialists in Sports Medicine in Malaga

Madrid, October 10, 2025.- The Superior Sports Council (CSD) and the General Secretariat for Sport of the Junta de Andalucía organized on October 6 and 7 in Malaga the XIV Working Days of the Avilés Group of Sports Medicine.

This working group is made up of the medical managers of the Sports Medicine Centers belonging to the Autonomous Communities, High Performance and Technification Centers, as well as representatives of some local entities, who in these annual days discuss topics of special interest for the development of their professional activity.

The opening ceremony of this edition was attended by the General Director of Sports Systems and Values of the Junta de Andalucía, Mariola Rus, and the Deputy General Director of Sports Sciences of the CSD, Ignacio Melendro.

On behalf of the Subdirectorate General of Sports Sciences of the CSD, Carmen Arnaudas also spoke, as moderator of a round table that dealt with topics related to the current situation of Sports Medicine, a presentation on the digitalization project of the Sports Medicine Centers and the coordination of the Avilés Group.

During the working days, the updating of the model of sports medical examination of fitness was analyzed, including the cardiological contraindications and legal aspects, the models of specific stress tests for different sports, the update in the interpretation of the analytical parameters, the usefulness of hyperbaric medicine, the new trends in strength training and the importance of the prevention of skin cancer of athletes was highlighted.

Likewise, the current state of the effort to reestablish training in the specialty of Sports Medicine was discussed, as well as the digitization project of the Centers of Sports Medicine.

From these days, which included the participation of professionals from the health, legal and administrative fields linked to these issues and representation of most of the Autonomous Communities, different conclusions were drawn, among which the prevention of skin cancer in athletes and the importance of the medical-sports recognition correctly carried out were highlighted.
