El Gobierno otorga el Premio Nacional del Deporte Extraordinario 2020 a los y las deportistas que contribuyeron a la lucha contra la pandemia

The president of the supreme council for sports, josé Manuel Franco, on behalf of the government, has signed a resolution which gave the national prize of extraordinary Sport 2020 anyone sportsmen who, from their jobs in the forefront of the fight against Covid, provided the best of themselves, expressing the best values of sport to the battle against the pandemic.

The prize will be delivered this monday, 18 july in the royal palace of El Pardo by SS.MM. kings, Don Felipe and Doña Letizia, at the same sitting in which awards will be handed over for the year 2019. While the national sport Awards reflect the recognition of individuals and entities that contribute heavily to bolster or disseminate físico-deportiva activity, it should be recalled that 2020 was a special year. A year that virtually all cancelled sports events and competitions, were postponed the olympic and paralympic games in Tokyo and was limited for many months practise sports, including the individual.

En este sentido, los y las deportistas carecieron de la posibilidad de competir en igualdad de condiciones y otorgar los premios anuales de la manera habitual en que se efectúa podría generar agravios comparativos innecesarios. De ahí la conveniencia de crear un Premio Extraordinario para un colectivo que, con enorme solidaridad y en ocasiones desde sus propios puestos de trabajo, contribuyeron a luchar contra el virus y animar a una población que pasaba miedo, incertidumbre y mucho dolor.

“En definitiva, su papel fue más que decisivo a la hora de superar uno de los peores momentos que recuerda España. No cabe duda de que el del año 2020 es un Premio Nacional del Deporte Extraordinario pero más necesario que nunca”, expresa el presidente del Consejo, José Manuel Franco. “Se lo dedicamos a los y las miles de deportistas federados de nuestro país que sirvieron a España y a su sociedad en los peores momentos convirtiéndose en un verdadero ejemplo de comportamiento para todos, en especial para los más jóvenes”, remacha.
