Rodríguez Uribes: “The tribute of Roland Garros universalizes Rafa Nadal”

The track Philippe Chatrier has turned to the recognition of Rafael Nadal

Paris, 25 May 2025.- The President of the Higher Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, attended this Sunday in Paris the tribute ceremony that Roland Garros gave to tennis player Rafael Nadal, fourteen times winner of this Grand Slam.

The Philippe Chatrier track has focused on the recognition of Rafael Nadal, “our great athlete of all time”, according to Rodríguez Uribes. The president of the CSD followed the ceremony with the Spanish Ambassador to France, Victorio Redondo, and the president of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, Miguel Díaz.
In statements to the media, the president of the CSD has shown his gratitude to the French people for the tribute. “It is an act of justice, which universalizes Rafa Nadal. His figure marks a before and an after in the history of Spanish sport,” he added.

Rodríguez Uribes has considered Rafa Nadal “a reference, who has represented heroism and epic in memorable matches, which he ended up winning for his perseverance, ability and talent.” He also stressed that the Spanish tennis player “knew how to see the opponents as adversaries to which we must also respect”, as evidenced by the presence at the foot of the court of his three great rivals, the Swiss Roger Federer, the Serbian Novak Djokovic and the British Andy Murray.
