Rodríguez Uribes welcomes the national teams of wheelchair basketball after the success in the European of Sarajevo
Madrid, November 12, 2025.- The president of the Superior Sports Council (CSD), José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, received on Wednesday the men’s and women’s wheelchair basketball teams, which won gold and bronze, respectively, in the European Championship held last October in Sarajevo.
Rodríguez Uribes has personally congratulated the members of both teams and their technical staff and has highlighted the “gratitude”, “pride” and “immense joy” of receiving them at the CSD headquarters.
“The gold and bronze achieved in Sarajevo are the indisputable proof of your talent”, stressed the president of the CSD during his speech, in which he reiterated the commitment of the Government with the promotion of paralympic sport, “a real bet of country”. “You count on us, the CSD will always be there,” he said.
For his part, the president of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF), Enrique Álvarez, has described Spain’s success in the BSR European as a “historical fact” and has explained that work is already being done on a “model of the future” with a view to the Paralympic Games of 2028 and 2032.
The event was also attended by the national BSR coach, Abraham Carrión; the general director of the Spanish Paralympic Committee, Francisco Botía; and the players Óscar Onrubia and Beatriz Zudaire.
All of them have agreed to highlight the great moment that Spanish basketball lives in a wheelchair. In recent months alone, Spain has won two silver medals at the 3x3 World Championships in South Africa and men’s gold and women’s silver at the World University Games in Germany. At the club level, last season the Amiab Albacete also won its fourth European Champions Cup.
