Madrid, June 22, 2021.- The Higher Sports Council (CSD) has today hosted the presentation of a new edition of the European Sports Week, an initiative of the European Commission to promote sport and combat sedentarism that will be held between 23 and 30 September simultaneously in all member countries of the EU.
The event counted the presence of the president of the CSD, José Manuel Franco, and with the participation of the sports ambassadors of edition of this year: Roxana Popa and Paco Cubelos, who has intervened telematically. For the first time, the European Sports Week will feature an influencer as ambassador, Rubén García.
Under the motto #BeActive, the European Sports Week of 2021 aims to involve all social entities to carry out one or more actions that promote physical activity and good eating habits among the population. It is intended that Spain re-beat the records of participation in the activities promoted by entities related to sport in the fight against the scourge of increasing obesity and sedentarism, in favor of a healthy life based on physical exercise and adequate food.
For José Manuel Franco, these kinds of initiatives “endorse the commitment of the CSD to the promotion of physical activity” among the population. “A society that bets on sport is a society that is physically and mentally healthier,” he said.
In his speech, the Secretary of State for Sport recalled that Spain is the only country in the European Union that has included sport among the sectors that will receive recovery funds after the COVID-19 pandemic. “We want to increase sports practice because we believe that sport is an investment. We have a clear path and we must do it all together,” he said.
Among the actions planned within the European Sports Week 2021, the celebration of the sports event BeActive Night in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (September 25), the development of the Physical Activity Program Begins x ti, the organization of a Ploggin activity (September 26) or the Awards Gala CSD-BeActive.
All the initiatives aim to call for action and count on the collaboration of the Autonomous Communities, Municipalities, Educational and Sports Centers, Universities, Sports Federations and work centers.
