European Week of sport 2019 merges culture and sport and invites people to remain active
The minister of culture and sport in functions, José Guirao, has put in value the dimension of sport as “social and cultural element of first order ”
Madrid, 18 September 2019.The minister of culture and sport in functions, José Guirao, along with the president of the High Council of sports (CSD), María José Free, have presented today at the National Archaeological Museum a new edition of the European Week of sport, a European project driven by the CSD that seeks to promote the practice of sport and physical activity among citizens.
In his speech, Guirao has stressed the relationship between culture and sport, whose values are “fundamental ” for our citizenship.“ Sport is a reflection of each society and therefore a social and cultural element of the first order, through which it is possible to understand and transform society, as well as through culture. ” “Sport is source of health, offers us the possibility to be healthier, and we have the challenge that reaches our youth. We need to start our children of screens, ” added.
The presentation ceremony, held at the National Archaeological Museum, has enjoyed the presence of the ambassadors of the week of Europe this year, sportsmen Gisela polished, Fernando cart and Eva Moral, to which the minister has appreciated their collaboration and commitment. “Athletes like these ambassadors are a mirror where to look, ” said.
For its part, the secretary of state for sport and president of the High Council of sports, María José Free, has expressed the continued engagement European week of sport in our country. "We want to promote the sport to have a healthier society ”.
Moreover, in reference to the programme of activities in this year's edition, Free has appreciated the effort of all entities involved in the organization of the different sporting events and activities that will take place in cultural spaces. "The binomial culture and sport makes us bigger and stronger ”, has assured.
“Do sport, practiced culture ”
As the main novelty, this year's edition has as its motto“Do sport, practiced culture ”. For this reason, the ministry of culture and Sport and the High Council of sports have scheduled the challenge of conducting walking a route through the State Museums of Madrid.
Autonomous communities also European week of sport with various events promoting physical activity. Specifically and thanks to the support of CSD, participate in this edition regions ofCastilla-La Stain, Valencia,, march Extremadura and Murcia.
