Madrid, 14 march 2024.-The president of the supreme council for sports, José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, has participated today in the united nations headquarters, together with the state secretary for Environment, Hugo Morán; the executive vice-president of fundación Alternativas, Diego López Garrido, and the director of Relaciones Externas ESG PERFORMANCE and of Ecoembes, begoña de Benito, in the presentation of theReport on sustainability in Spain 2023. The role of sport in the ecological transition.
This study, carried out by the Fundación Alternativas in collaboration with Ecoembes and the CSD, addresses the role of sport in the ecological transition by offering an extensive analysis of sports ecosystem in our country.
Moreover, this report provides an assessment of environmental sustainability of sport in spain and offers recommendations and new initiatives and policies relevant to develop.
In his statement, the president of the CSD has highlighted the need to extend the idea of “ sport ”, because in its view “ requires our well-being as a society and the health of the planet ”.
“ through its cross-cutting nature, the ecological transition is also present in the process of transformation of our model of sport. In fact, in the preamble of the sport act mentioned the ecological transition between dimensions to take into account in the adequacy of sport spanish at the current economic and social reality and future ”, has assured Rodríguez Uribes.

For its part, the vice-chairman of fundación Alternativas, Diego López Garrido, has in the realization of this report entitled “ highlights that sport also has to do its ecological transition ”.
