Segovia will host the central events in Spain of the European Week of Sport 2025
Madrid, 10 March 2025.- Segovia has been designated the headquarters in Spain of the central events of the European Week of Sport 2025.
This initiative, promoted by the European Commission and promoted in our country by the Higher Council of Sports (CSD), will take place from 23 to 30 September simultaneously in the Member States of the European Union and aims to promote sports practice and combat sedentarism.
The central event of this edition, known as #BEACTIVE NIGHT, will take place on Saturday, September 27 at Plaza Artillería, an emblematic space with the image of the Roman aqueduct.
This event promises to be a great event for the city, as it was in 2024 for Vigo, to which Segovia takes the witness. European Week of Sport had a great impact on our country in 2024. Not for nothing, over 1,230 sports activities were organised nationally last year and the record of participation in Spain was broken with more than 611,000 people.
This recognition to Segovia highlights the work that the City Council has done to promote sport, aware of the benefits this brings to its citizens. It also highlights the joint effort of institutions, clubs, athletes and a citizenry living in sport with passion.
In addition to being the Spanish headquarters of the European Week of Sport, this year Segovia also holds the title of European City of Sport, which strengthens its commitment to promoting physical activity and well-being.
Segovia has exceptional conditions for sport, with a wide range of activities ranging from alpine skiing to water sports, cycling and athletics.
Figures like Pedro Delgado, Antonio Prieto or Águeda Marqués, the last finalist at the 1,500 meters in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, are examples of the city’s great sports tradition.
