National Sports Awards

 

Since 1982, the Higher Sports Council has been awarding the National Sports Awards to distinguish athletes, associations, entities and those who have stood out for the promotion or promotion of Physical Education and Sport.

 

The National Sports Awards are a distinction awarded by the Superior Sports Council since 1982, with the aim of recognizing the athletes, public or private entities, federations, clubs, associations and professionals who have stood out most for the promotion and promotion of sport in Spain.

These awards, which are awarded annually, seek to enhance performance and sporting achievements as well as make visible values associated with sports practice, such as effort, fair play, improvement or equality.

Throughout its more than four decades of history, the National Sports Awards have been consolidated as the greatest recognition of the Government of Spain in this matter.

The National Sports Awards are currently grouped into fourteen categories:

- Rey Felipe Award, for the best Spanish sportsman of the year

- Queen Letizia Award, for the best Spanish sportswoman of the year

- Princess Leonor Award, for the best male or female athlete under 18 years

- Infanta Sofia Award, for sports activity among people with disabilities

- King Juan Carlos Award, to the revealing sportsman or woman

- Queen Sofia Award, for fair play and the eradication of violence

- European Union Trophy, to the sportsman or sportsman, or to the entity, club or institution of any member country of the European Union that has most distinguished during the year in its sports activities.

- Ibero-American Community Trophy, for the best Ibero-American athlete, male or female

- Barón de Güell Cup, to the best team or selection of the year

- Copa Stadium, to the person or entity that has excelled in the promotion of sport

- Superior Sports Council Award, to the Spanish local entity that has most distinguished in the promotion of sport, by organization of sports activities or facilities

- Joaquín Blume Trophy, to the most outstanding University or School in sports promotion

- National Award for the Arts and Sciences Applied to Sport, for the dissemination of physical and sporting activity

- Francisco Fernández Ochoa National Award, for a lifetime dedicated to sport

 

Last announcement

The candidacies corresponding to the merits of the year 2024 may be proposed by federated athletes, sports associations, national and regional sports federations, private institutions, persons or entities recognized with any National Sports Prize in previous editions, as well as by any organ of the Public Administrations.

The deadline for submitting nominations will remain open until 1 September 2025.

To reward the Spanish sportsman who has distinguished himself most during the year in his sports performance, both nationally and internationally (Instituted in 1982; Modified his name by the House of SM the King in 1994, so as not to confuse him with the prizes of the Principality of Asturias, for the “National Prize, Don Felipe de Borbón”). The prize that was previously known as the Don Felipe de Borbón Prize, receives the new name according to a resolution of March 17, 2015, from the President of the Superior Council of Sports for which the name of the prizes is changed.

The prize that was previously known as the Infanta Prize of Spain Doña Elena, receives the new name according to a resolution of March 17, 2015, from the President of the Superior Council of Sports for which the name of the prizes is changed.
