The Government approves a grant of 2 million euros to sports entities owning facilities affected by DANA
• The Higher Sports Council (CSD) will subsidize with up to 2 million euros the repair, reconstruction or restitution of infrastructures, equipment or facilities affected by the DANA of which sports entities of state and regional scope are owners.
• The beneficiaries of this grant will mainly be sports clubs and territorial federations.
• This measure complements the aid provided for in article 5 of Royal Decree-Law 6/2024, with which the Government of Spain will contribute to the repair, restitution or reconstruction of municipal, provincial or island owned facilities.
Madrid, 28 November 2024.- The Council of Ministers approved at its meeting held on Thursday the granting through the Higher Sports Council (CSD) of a subsidy of up to EUR 2 million for sports entities owning infrastructures, equipment or facilities that have been affected by DANA.
Within the framework of the emergency situation caused by this disaster, the Government of Spain envisages two lines of economic aid in the field of sport.
A first, contained in article 5 of Royal Decree-Law 6/2024, by which the Government of Spain will contribute through aid to local entities to the repair, restitution or reconstruction of infrastructures, equipment or facilities and services of municipal, provincial or insular ownership.
And this second, through a grant of up to 2 million euros granted by the CSD, which is aimed at sports entities of a private nature that appear in the registers of the state or autonomous area. Mainly, clubs and territorial federations that own infrastructures, equipment or sports facilities located in one of the 78 municipalities included in the annex of Royal Decree-Law 6/2024.
These grants may reach a maximum of 100,000 euros for each sports entity and will cover the costs of the repair, reconstruction or restitution works that must be carried out between 28 October 2024 and 31 December 2025 as a result of the damage caused by DANA.
The total amount of this grant will be up to EUR 2 million and will be funded from the CSD’s expenditure budget.
A government committed to sport
In addition, through the High Level Athlete Care Program (PROAD), the CSD has made available to athletes who need it a psychosocial support service in the High Performance Centers of Madrid, León and Sierra Nevada.
All these decisions underline the importance that the Spanish Government attaches to sport. Not in vain, Spain was the only country in the European Union that included it as a tractor element within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, making 300 million euros from the NextGeneration Funds available to this sector.
On this occasion, sport will once again occupy a central place in the process of recovering from this tragedy, not only because of the obvious benefits to the physical and mental health of the people affected, but also as an engine of social cohesion and economic reactivation.
In disaster situations, sports practice provides a way to reconstruct emotional normality. In addition, sport generates employment, promotes sectors such as tourism and hospitality and promotes values such as solidarity and resilience, which are fundamental in times of reconstruction. Therefore, this Government will prioritize the rehabilitation of affected sports facilities and the promotion of programs that use sport as a tool of integral recovery.
