Madrid, 21 February 2025.- The fifteen young people between 16 and 18 who won the “Ambassador for a Day” program, promoted by the British Embassy, visited the Higher Council of Sports (CSD) on Friday to learn about the public policies that are favoring women’s leadership in sport.
The event began with a conversation on “Women’s Leadership in Sport” in which the Deputy Director of High Competition of the CSD, Lola Boyé, the Assistant Director-General of Sports Sciences, Iñaki Melendro, and the psychologist of the program of care for the high level athlete (PROAD), Sandra Tabasco, as well as the Spanish team leader
After the round table, the girls visited the facilities of the Madrid High Performance Center, where they were able to see some training and have direct contact with some athletes.
During the visit they have been accompanied by the ambassador, Alex Ellis, who has highlighted the importance of initiatives like this, which “break barriers, challenge stereotypes and give visibility to female referents, inspiring younger generations.”
Sport has been the focus of the third edition of “Ambassador for a Day”, a project in which the embassies of Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Ukraine have also participated and which provides adolescents with a platform to explore their potential.
Sport is an engine for empowering young women and, beyond physical health, it offers benefits such as increased self-esteem and confidence. But according to UNESCO, 49% of girls leave sports during adolescence. Therefore, it is crucial to guarantee equal opportunities in sport through public sports policies, which in Spain leads and drives the Higher Council of Sports.
