High Level Athlete Care Program - PROAD
The Higher Council of Sports (CSD), under the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport, develops the Programme of Attention to Athletes (PROAD) aimed at High Level Athletes (DAN) and High Performance Athletes (DAR) of the Autonomous Communities (CCAA) assigned to the program, to try to respond to professional needs. It is the result of the CSD’s commitment to concretize and develop what is established in this regard in Article 17 of Royal Decree 971/2007 on high-level and high-performance athletes.
The PROAD aims to promote a policy of support and comprehensive care to our athletes and joins the expansion of measures contemplated in the new regulations and constitutes a valuable support tool that acts proactively, offering athletes personalized attention during their sports career so that it culminates in a successful socio-labor integration.
High-level sport is a sport practice of interest to the State for the values it promotes in society. It is an essential factor in sports development and a stimulus for the promotion of basic sport, linked to the representative role of Spain in official international sports competitions.
Athletes have full dedication to this activity, with which they acquire excellent professional attributes, motivation of achievement, teamwork, sense of commitment and responsibility, etc. However, the demands and efforts arising from it, trainings, concentrations, competitions and continuous trips sometimes hinder the suitable development of professional careers complementary to their sports careers.
The Programme faces these challenges with the aim of reducing its impact and enabling sports successes to be complemented by academic and professional successes. The whole of Spanish society participates in these successes, and that is why the Program aims to coordinate and stimulate actions with the different public institutions, and private bodies that want to be involved in the development of high-level sport and its values.
